This was a good discussion. No one called Ben a rapist, and only one idiotic post from the idiot Ravenator. This should give just a little bit of a clue to the Ravens fans that often spew venom in any Steelers article that Steelers fans may be passionate, but we do have a bit of class. Truth is, we love players like Suggs. He epitomizes tough football. That's what we believe helps the Steelers be the team we are most years I am happy Suggs won't be sacking Ben, but I wish him the best in his recovery.

Too often, I see football fans cheering injuries that happen to the opposing team. It always disgusts me, injuries are the worst part of the game. How can you want to see another human being get hurt, and call yourself a human?*

I certainly wasn't cheering when Palmer went down--and neither was Kimo, as the film clearly shows. Even Palmer said after watching the film that the hit was an accident. The only people who seem happy are Bengals fans who used that incident as an excuse for years of mediocrity. Brady had the Pats back in the playoffs the season following his ACL tear. Rod Woodson was playing in the Super Bowl four months after his ACL tear. The only person to blame for his inability to rally back from that injury is Carson.

Just as rpmcanes pointed out with the Pollard thing, you've got jackasses in every fanbase. But people who genuinely love the sport would never celebrate an opponent's injury. I was sick when Brady was injured because of the great football we weren't going to see that season. And my first reaction on hearing of Suggs's injury was profound disappointment that he probably wouldn't be able to play in our rivalry games. I love defensive football and Steelers/Ravens is the highlight of the year. Of course, I want Suggs on the field and at full strength, too!

Nothing wrong with hoping a guy retires (Ed Reed), because they go out on their own terms, but celebrating an injury is poor sportsmanship. Most of us Steeler fans wish the best for suggs and a quick recovery. There’s no fun beating and handicapped team….. even if they have the best qb in the league.
———–
What planet are you on? Are you calling Flacco the best qb in the league? And you call yourself a Steeler fan? I am a Dolphin fan and I would rather have any of our 3 qb’s over flacco! The only reason the ravens have been in the playoffs at all in the last 10 years is their defense! Not Flacco! Lol!!!

You obviously don't get it.

His comment was tongue in cheek; referring to Flacco calling himself the best QB in the league.

Any REAL football fan already knows this.

Against your biggest rivals, you want BOTH teams at full force. Otherwise... if you win and the other team is missing players, you'll just hear excuses. And if your team loses while missing players... well then you try to just chalk it up to that.

With all that said, I think the Ravens have the corners and safeties to be just fine against Roethlisberger no matter how many tackles he breaks or how much time he has. He always got by because he'd just buy enough time for guys to get open. But the Ravens were horrible at the corner position for most of the seasons where Ben played good against them.

Now... where Suggs will be missed is against QB's and offenses like Tom Brady and the Patriots. Oh, and that Peyton Manning guy comes to Baltimore in December. Suggs will be itching to try and get back for that game... as he has never sacked Peyton. Came close plenty of times, but the guy always throws the ball away just in time.

Any REAL football fan already knows this.

Against your biggest rivals, you want BOTH teams at full force. Otherwise… if you win and the other team is missing players, you’ll just hear excuses. And if your team loses while missing players… well then you try to just chalk it up to that.

With all that said, I think the Ravens have the corners and safeties to be just fine against Roethlisberger no matter how many tackles he breaks or how much time he has. He always got by because he’d just buy enough time for guys to get open. But the Ravens were horrible at the corner position for most of the seasons where Ben played good against them.

Now… where Suggs will be missed is against QB’s and offenses like Tom Brady and the Patriots. Oh, and that Peyton Manning guy comes to Baltimore in December. Suggs will be itching to try and get back for that game… as he has never sacked Peyton. Came close plenty of times, but the guy always throws the ball away just in time.

Most of us Steeler fans wish the best for suggs and a quick recovery. There’s no fun beating and handicapped team….. even if they have the best qb in the league.
-----------
What planet are you on? Are you calling Flacco the best qb in the league? And you call yourself a Steeler fan? I am a Dolphin fan and I would rather have any of our 3 qb's over flacco! The only reason the ravens have been in the playoffs at all in the last 10 years is their defense! Not Flacco! Lol!!!

I'm a proud Steelers fan, and even I can't believe the GM compared losing Suggs to losing Colon. I respect Colbert, but that was a ridiculous comparison.

I wish Suggs wasn't hurt and hope Ed Reed doesn't retire: I hope they're both on the field when the Steelers bounce back. Hope the Ravens' fans enjoyed the one time every decade the Ravens are better.

EJ says: Jun 22, 2012 1:43 PM

The rivalry’s of today don’t compare to those of the past. Example: Buffalo/Miami, Raiders/K.C., Cowboys/Eagles. Players back then wished much pain and suffering on one another.
______________________________
After the Browns/Steelers game last year when Roethlisberger suffered a high ankle sprain, the radio talk shows celebrated it as if it were a Browns victory. One caller even stated the only time he was happier was when he heard Ben was nearly killed in a motorcycle accident. A certain Bengals message board celebrated the same way.

One can say - oh, its Ben Roethlisberger and hide behind not liking him for other reasons. But that is BS. The truth is that these fans are taking pleasure in not seeing a rival succeed, giving themselves a better chance to win, etc.

But there is a line you can cross here - you don't wish ill on others so you can succeed. That's a small minded thought - every team is going to suffer through these. And it's even worse celebrating someone nearly getting killed because he wears the football uniform of a different team.

When Carson Palmer was injured in the 2005 Wild Card game, I knew it was over and the Steelers had it won, but I took little satisfaction in his injury because there was nothing funny about it. He never quite was the same again and the entire NFL lost because of that.

Never cheer for a player to get hurt, remember, these are people too - trying to provide for their families.
