Getty ImagesAt a time when players’ adjustments to life after football has come under increased scrutiny, Brian Dawkins says his first couple months of retirement are going well.
Dawkins, who announced his retirement in April after 16 NFL seasons, appeared at a football camp for people with Down Syndrome today in Colorado and told the Denver Post that he’s excited to have more time for events like that.
“It’s something to be able to give back to different organizations, especially with kids,” Dawkins said. “I’m at peace with my decision. I’m very ecstatic about the next phase of this thing, doing some of the things that have been in my heart for maybe the last three-to-four years. This is what I’ve been doing, charitable things with different organizations, dabbling in a little coaching, a little broadcast work, if that comes to fruition, so I’m excited about that.”
Dawkins’ coaching will be at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where Brian Dawkins Jr. is a sophomore, and the father is excited about being able to coach his son. (Father was also quick to say that son will have to earn his playing time, just like he would if he weren’t the coach’s kid.) After a long and honorable career Dawkins would be justified if he just wanted to put his feet up in retirement, but that’s not the kind of guy Brian Dawkins is.

Brian, I forgive you for the late hit on Ike Hilliard. The world could use a bunch more Brian Dawkins.
Great player and person I agree, hope one day you coach for the Eagles!
I too would love to see Dawkins coaching for the Eagles. He was always so good with the yonger players and a great leader in the locker room
B-Dawkins is the man and always will be.
If I were to line up on defense next to Brian Dawkins…I would fear no man.
Some players simply do their jobs, but other guys have such an immense effect on their teammates that they make everyone significantly better around them.
Quality, Quality, human being
Eagles need to hire him in some capacity immediately. Get him around these younginz.
Dawk could be the next Mike Tomlin.
probably one of the classiest acts of all time. hard worker, great talent, great person…philly didnt such a great individual…your coach beats his kids, your fans are the worst except for the pats…cheers to a bright spot on an otherwise disgraceful excuse for a sports down..it was a pleasure to have him in denver and i hope he stays involved in a city where fans actually appreciate their players
Probably one of the highest-caliber people to ever play the game. He’s already given so much to the game, including mentoring dozens of younger teammates, being a leader both on and off the field. Not to mention the unique combination of ferocity, athleticism and intelligence which has allowed him to play the game at such a high level for so long. He was one of my favorite players even when he was in Philly, so it was a real pleasure to get to watch him in Denver his last few years. The guy pretty much represents everything that’s right about pro sports, and it’s no surprise at all that he has much more to give in retirement. Best of luck to him– not that a guy with his toughness and determination needs much.
Come coach the cowboys secondary! Even though we all know you would probably never do that
Would make a great defensive coordinator, hate to see great guys walk away without a superbowl ring.
The Eagles should be ashamed of themselves that Brian Dawkins Jr is going to high school in Colorado.
He’s not going back to Philly. Colorado is his new home.
I have watched alot of football, seen many players come and go. Brian Dawkins is one of the best pure football players that I have ever seen play! Some are more talented, some more athletic, some are bigger and faster, but none have more heart and character than B-Dawk! and this is coming from a Giants fan no less.
