Those of you saying MetLife was privately funded and/or the state only paid for some minor road and parking improvements are forgetting one thing. The state also agreed to eat all the remaining debt on Giants Stadium. That was long-term state-issued bonds that the state still has to cover with no building to generate revenue... all they get now is the land lease from the stadium LLC, since the state has no financial interest in the building itself.

Me too! WTF? Maybe the Jets/Giants ought to just be glad they reside in a county still stuck in the stone age where religious BS still overrides common sense and convenience for all. I love all the false outrage about other dumb crap as if the wants of the NFL should supersede the rights of other business owners to make a living. That’s the thing everyone should be pissed about. Tell Woody and Mara to suck it up and stop whining…….

Can not speak for the jets but the giants sell out ever week 85,000 fans how many seats are in that litte stadium by the river in pitt oh wait I know 20,000 less so I guess it is easy to see that the Giants have 20,000 more fans in seats then the steelers.

Great post not based on facts what do write for the NY Times
The FANS paid for Metlife to be built with PSL sales and what was not covered by that they teams went to the bank and borrowed.

The State gave the swamp land and fixed a few roads Note it is the same land where the old place was.

As a outside of New Jersey/New Yourk NFL fan I would say along with many others I’m sure. WHO cares. However, I do understand your concerns about getting to a game in Sunday. Who needs a mall and 55mil spenders in the county when it’s football season what the heck is wrong with those people? Malls n jibs over football? Have they lost their mind?

Yep Bergen Co. NJ blue laws still exist. Anyway, the traffic around the Meadowlands on a non-gameday at peak hours is terrible. I can’t see how theyd be able to do this without reconfiguring route 3 and the TP interchanges. I live 30mins away without traffic and I know, it wouldnt be overly appealing to schlep up there. We have Paramus Mall, Jersey Gardens, Menlo, Woodbridge, Short Hills, that I can think of off the top of my head in a 30 mi radius. Plus all the retail stores on the local highways.

I think the teams should be making a bigger deal about how heinous-looking that glorified container station is! Even Christie said it’s the ugliest structure in America, not to mention the fact that it’s basically been sitting there rotting without any further developments made in over 2 years!

The training system is going to do much for shopping traffic. People aren’t going to go shopping and lug all there new items on a train to there house. I go to new port mall and if I am planning on getting anything big, I drive there. If not I take the light rail/ path.

Could this be more about losing parking, merchandise, and food revenue to a mall and it’s parking lot nearby? Ya know … two sports teams putting a stop to a $3.7 B construction project and all the jobs that it will create? Not to mention sales taxes from 55M annual visitors? All for Football dates? If I were an NJ taxpayer … I’d be SUPER PISSED!

I grew up in Hackensack NJ. The Bergen County blue laws are odd to say the least.

You can buy toothpaste but not a toothbrush on Sunday.

But if you know NJTP Exit 16W, the traffic cant get any worse than it already is. Lincoln Tunnel to 495 to Rt 3 is no picnic either. Rt 17 is jammed.

Locals know that Rt 46 to Moonachie Rd to Patterson Plank Rd is the way to go.
