Jimmy Clausen has not done well because his hands are too small. This affects him when the ball is wet due to sweat (in hot weather), rain, snow, and also cold. On a good weather day, he's a good passer. His small hands make him inconsistent. Records show his hands (thumb to small finger) at 9". This compares with Andrew Luck, for example, at 10 1/8" and Russell Wilson at 10 1/4". Small hands will be the reason that Ryan Tannehill (9") will not succeed. Chad Henne also has small hands (9") and has difficulty. This is not a bad rap against these players. These are just the facts. Hand size doesn't correlate with height. Several tall QB's have small hands and struggle to throw a spiral. A player can be a "hard worker", be motivated, etc.. However, if he is a quarterback, his hands must be large enough to play under all conditions.

I don’t get how a guy who played as well as Clausen did in a pro system under Weis flopped so bad in the NFL. I know he wasn’t in an ideal situation but still. I had high hopes for Clausen, I hope he gets a shot somewhere, he’s still young and some guys just take some time to get “it”.
_____

I have always said Clausen got too much blame for the 2010 season. Not only was he playing for a coach that actually told the OC to "stop throwing the f**king ball," and who had mentally checked out of Charlotte well before the season started, he was also the QB behind the worst offensive line ever assembled in the history of the sport of football, at any level, in any era. God Himself would not have been able to lead that offense to more than 10 points a game with that O-line. By the time the 2011 season started, Clausen was hopelessly shell-shocked, a la David Carr. Like Carr, he will probably never recover enough to be a good NFL QB. And of course we got Cam, so it worked out for us.

Clausen was just being a punk. He didn’t really have any connection to the number in his heart, but he didn’t want Newton to have it. Doggone weasel. He could have had some money, and now he looks like a bum. Was #2 a number he had had since high school or something? How was he SOOOO connected to the number a year ago and now he can care less what number he has?
_____

You're talking junk about the wrong punk.

The punk in this story is Jason Baker. Clausen would have gladly given #2 to Cam if Baker would give Clausen #7, which was his number in high school and college. Problem was, Baker had a massive ego (being a punter, no one can figure out where he got it), and refused to give #7 up. So Cam chose #1. Now that Baker has been canned, Clausen is in the #7 he wanted all along.
