Canty says he can participate in training camp

Super Bowl XLVI

Lost in the offseason brouhaha between the Giants and defensive end Osi Umenyiora was the fact that defensive tackle Chris Canty didn’t participate at all in the offseason program, due to knee surgery.

According to Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News, Canty says he’s on track to return to action in training camp.

“All signs point to go,” Canty said. “I’m feeling good about training camp.”

That said, it’s somewhat alarming that he still can’t run. Instead, Canty is “progressing” toward regaining the ability to do so.

With the launch of training camp “progressing” fairly quickly, it’s hard not to wonder whether Canty is being a little overly optimistic.
