so even though the young guys keep screwing up you should still support them? admit it your support has nothing to do with them as people but only how good a player they are. if it was a 3rd string player you and the team would kick them to the curb so fast they would not know what happened to them. how about showing some support by getting them the help they need or telling them not to appeal the penalty they will be getting. even if they do not learn anything they need to know there are consequences for their screw ups.

All of the arrests have taken place during the offseason. Trying to blame anyone but the individual is silly. These arrests are a result of youthful stupidity with too much money and free time (time fought for in tbe cba) not an organization's lack structure. David Diehl got arrested at 31 years old and folks were strangely forgiving because he'd never been a problem. The Giants had seven arrests with 7 different players in 2008, 4 while still in season! Yet Coughlin is still considered a disciplinarian and the Football Giants a class organization. So Avril is correct. The Lions being a bunch of knuckle heads is a perception based on media and fans trying to make the free time of players relavent to what happens on the field.

The league need to be more stricter on arrests and repeated arrests. Its usually always the same thing, DUI, drug or weapon possession and assault. Teams need to have 0 tolerance in players contract, its a shame that every off season players getting in trouble, not taking their jobs seriously. If I had the authority to punish players it’ll be like this:

1st arrest: 4 games suspended without pay
2nd arrest: 1 year suspension without pay
3rd arrest: kicked out the league for life

That’s right, 3 strikes and you’re out, that’ll get their attention to clean their acts up

———

The Steelers??? You do know they’ve had less arrests than most of the teams in league since 2008 right. Actually the Angels (Packers) have had more arrests than any other team in the league other than the Lions since then.

You only talk about the Steelers cause you’re a hater. But I don’t blame you, greatness come with jealousy.

Sour grapes from the Steelers loss to the Pack in the Super Bowl? Feel free to back up the arrest claims with some stats, otherwise you're just another Steelers idiot.

They should make a “Lemon Law” for the teams. They put up with a lot of this stuff because they don’t have many options when key players go afoul of the law. If teams have so many instances, fines, etc. where they know they have a “lemon” on their hands, the league should give them some remedies so they can cut the loss and not be penalized for losing someone high on the depth chart. Maybe adding a draft choice, a break in cap for one year, etc.

Also, if these trouble players that are getting busted two, three times know they can lose it all when the team triggers the Lemon Law, they may straighten up sooner than later.

Right now there are no teeth for either the NFL or the teams to really deal with this in any meaningful way.

-----------------------

Right, so if you hire the wrong candidate for any job in he real-world you should be compensated for it? BS

Problem is the contracts, if language was in the teams contratc with agent/player about 0 tolerance then players could owe back $ and lose job.

Thing is, in reality teams/owners know how many of these players live bad lifestyles in the off-season/free time and just hope they can keep there talent long enough to help them win big.

hey804 says: Jun 27, 2012 6:54 PM

But isn’t that how we judge the Saints, Bengals and Steelers?

---------

The Steelers??? You do know they've had less arrests than most of the teams in league since 2008 right. Actually the Angels (Packers) have had more arrests than any other team in the league other than the Lions since then.

You only talk about the Steelers cause you're a hater. But I don't blame you, greatness come with jealousy.
