I have no problem with RG3 and I wish him the best of luck in Washington. The failure to bring him to Cleveland will cost Holmgren + Heckert their jobs. Never have I seen an organization manage their drafts so poorly with so many picks over so many seasons as the Browns have since returning in 1999. I do not believe Weeden will make any difference since the Browns were unable/ignored adding talent to the receiving corps in the draft and free agency. Can you say 4-12 again ?

I keep reading all these people saying Redskins nation "already bought their SB tickets" Already saying this and that...That is completely FALSE!!! Stop twisting fans excitement into what its not. I have not read 1 post where a Redskins fan has claimed any of this. For crying out loud are we as Redskin fans not allowed to be excited over the potential of what RG3 could be?

What I see is a lot of jealousy from non Skins fans flat out. I say this because the arguments that are brought are flat out funny. The real joke of the NFC East are the cowboys and eagles who have consistently failed year after year after year with more hype than the Redskins could ever have!!

Bottom line is Skins Nation is excited they finally have a trigger man who has the potential to be special...whats wrong with being excited over your team? If your not why watch at all?

I’m so happy the Redskins finally settled the quarterback problem. I couldn’t have made it through another season with a quarterback like…well…Brandon Weeden.

Ha ha, this is exactly the kind of post I like to cut and paste into a folder so I can re-post it at the end of the year when the Redskins finish in the basement of the NFC east yet again.

I love it. Redskins fans have already bought their Super Bowl tickets. They are so beyond convinced that the playoffs are in the bag that karma has no choice but to hand them a disaster of a season (again.) Meanwhile, the Browns and their fans are quietly confident that they have greatly improved the QB and RB situation- but they're not endlessly bragging about it or seeing the postseason as a forgone conclusion like 'Skins fans.

I can't wait for the 'Skins to finish with a record that's no better than whatever the Browns do- just like last year.

“God finally blessed Washington DC by delivering the best football player to ever breate, Robert Griffin the 3rd.”

I almost fell out of my chair. Best football player to ever breathe? Griffin hasn’t even played in an NFL exhibition game yet, and he’s better than Manning, better than Brady, better than Unitas, better than Montana? That statement is beyond ridiculous.
______________
The only thing more ridiculous than that statement is your reaction to that statement. Clearly it's absurd hyperbole. You do understand trolls work both ways right? I don't think anybody, anywhere, actually believes that Griffin is the greatest football player of all time before he takes a snap in the NFL. Similarly I don't think anybody actually believes that Griffin will bust so hard the Redskins cut him after week 3, and he ends up bankrupt and homeless, working the fry machine at McDonald's to support his crack addiction. Yet there are dozens of comments like this on any PFT article about the Redskins and Griffin.

This is the internet and there are idiots all over it, on both sides of any issue. The only thing dumber than these trolls are the people who take them seriously and respond like they're making an actual argument.

Griffin is talented and he MIGHT be great. Then again, people were once saying the same thing about Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Heath Shuler and JaMarcus Russell. Wait and see how he actually performs against an NFL defense before you anoint him as the greatest player of all time, okay? He wasn't even the first player picked in the draft.

Neither teams is going to be better than 8-8.
...
Neither Team has a solid Defense and the Skins have mediocre weapons at best with no money or picks for the next few seasons. Good Luck with that!</i>

Take a look at the team defense stats from 2011. Cleveland was the #10 defense in yards per game and # 5 in points per game. Washington ranked #13 in yards per game and #21 in points per game. Both teams have dynamic young running backs, good receiving threats at TE, and unproven WR corps full of #2 and #3 types. The 'Skins points allowed should decline if RGIII limits turnovers (Grossman & Beck combined for 24 INTs and 9 fumbles!).

I won't bother to get too deep into the WR issues, especially in Cleveland. Washington, on paper, has some solid receivers, and in Cleveland, there are some players with some physical talent, but a lot of question marks. We'll all just have to wait and see.

Browns have a decnt OLine and a few weapons... Neither Team has a solid Defense and the Skins have mediocre weapons at best with no money or picks for the next few seasons.
______
Really? The Browns leading receiver had 709 yards in 2011 (this is not a knock on Greg Little, he's a great player, just a knock on a stupid comment). Washington's Fred Davis had 796 yards despite a 4 game suspension, Pierre Garcon had a 947 yard season, and Josh Morgan was on pace for for a thousand yard season before he got injured, and all with Rex Grossman, Curtis Painter, and Alex Smith throwing to them, respectively. The Browns are also planning to start Travis Benjamin, a often suspended wideout who was more of a threat off the field at Miami than on, and was predicted to go undrafted on nearly every draft board in the country. Do you what you have to do to get suspended at the U? I don't, and I don't think I want to.

The Browns best weapon in 2012 will probably be untested rookie Trent Richardson. This is not to say, Richardson won't be good or is likely to bust: chances are he'll be a dominant force in the league for years. However, he has not played an NFL snap yet, while the Redskins are returning two second year tailbacks, neither of whom have ever rushed for less than 100 yards in a game they started. Additionally, the Redskins are returning always productive veterans Chris Cooley and Santana Moss from injury.

On the defensive front, "Neither team has a solid defense," Really? Because the Browns were a top ten defensive team last year, and while the Redskins were decimated in the secondary, they still finished 13th overall, were tenth in the league in sacks, and have unquestionably the best young OLB corps in the NFL.

In short, laxcoach37, every single fact you stated is just dead wrong, which helps explain your perception that Weeden will be better than Griffin in the immediate future: a belief that nobody who knows anything about football, anywhere in the country, agrees with you on.

I feel so bad for him. Ending up on a team that didn’t have ‘extra’ picks to trade away. So now at the end of each season there is no, “lets pick up this guy in the draft to make my life easier.”
____

To echo hurricanerich's sentiments, and completely contradict snowpea, there is no way to overpay for a top 5 quarterback. Think about the alternative. Washington is not a good team, but they are a 5-11 team, so what would happen if they had used the draft picks they spent on Griffin on other players they needed?

So Maybe in the 2012 draft they grab Morris Claiborne or Mark Barron, in the second round they grab Jonathan Martin or Kevin Ziegler? Next year, 2013 they get some receiving help, a replacement for the aging, but dominant London Fletcher and some more depth at secondary. And same thing in 2014. All of a sudden it's 2015, and they still need a franchise quarterback.

Unfortunately now, rather than picking sixth overall, they've had a number of effective drafts and finished 8-8 or 9-7, putting them at pick 10, 11, or 12: too early to draft a Weeden or a Dalton, but too far away from the top 5 to draft a Griffin or a Luck. This is the position the Seahawks and Chiefs are in; and it is not an enviable position at all. Kansas City and Seattle both have pretty good teams, but are both arguably missing a franchise QB, keeping them out of the ranks of the NFL elite. Unfortunately, their teams are too good to put them in a position to draft or trade up for a top 5 quarterback.

In summary, isn't it better for the Redskins to trade away one farm for a potential franchise QB this year, rather than developing the team and trading away two farms for a player of similar quality who may or may not exist three years from now?

Neither teams is going to be better than 8-8. That said, Weeden will be the better QB in the immediate future. I am not saying the Skins or Browns suck, but in both Divisions you have the Giants and Eagles and Steelers and Ravens at top. So, it ain't happening for ether. Still the Browns have a decnt OLine and a few weapons. Weeden fits the NFL.. Only time will tell if RGIII does. He has a strong arm and great athleticism, but that did nothing for Culpepper, Vick and Newton so far. Yes, exciting for Fans and churns out Offensive yardage, but the NFL is about Red Zone efficiency and Scoring (and of course, preventing the other Team from scoring). Neither Team has a solid Defense and the Skins have mediocre weapons at best with no money or picks for the next few seasons. Good Luck with that!

triangletaddler says:

I’m so happy the Redskins finally settled the quarterback problem. I couldn’t have made it through another season with a quarterback like…well…Brandon Weeden.

-----------------------------------------------

Should be interesting how good Griffin ends up being since you Redskins fans are already sending him to the HOF. Griffin thrashed the same crappy defenses of the Big 12 that Weeden did. They both are promising looking prospects, guess we'll see what happens..

As a Browns fan, I'll look forward to see what Weeden brings, I've heard nothing but positive reviews coming from the media and the Browns, he has a cannon and accuracy to go with it, of course, they are only in shorts with no pass rush right now, so the true test will come on Sundays, but I like what I see so far.

I can guarantee that Griffin will have more rushing yards than Weeden though...

The notion that they overpaid is debatable in itself. Unless, of course, he bombs and Kirk Cousins becomes the starter.....But if the guy is merely decent for 5 years, they really didn't overpay. Thanks to the proper management job of Bruce Allen, they've got draft picks up and down the board, salary cap space despite the $36 Million dollar hit, and they're in good shape without the picks they gave up to get RG3.

Vinny Cerrato, wherever you are, Doom on You!!
