49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is still recovering from being stabbed early Saturday morning while breaking up a fight at a party at his house and took a moment on Sunday to thank those who expressed concern for his health.
That tweet has been Smith’s only public comment since the incident and there aren’t many other updates to offer. There haven’t been any arrests in the case and the 49ers haven’t said anything since their initial statement after the news of Smith’s injuries broke. That means we don’t know what Smith thinks about those who turned their concerns in another direction.
As mentioned in Monday’s one-liners, Mike Sando of ESPN.com suggests that this weekend’s stabbing and a DUI earlier this offseason spell the need for Smith to change the way he’s living his life. Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com is on a similar wavelength while pointing back to questions about Smith’s maturity before he was drafted.
All the details of what went down during what police called “pretty chaotic” aren’t known so it’s best not to draw sweeping conclusions about Smith. Whatever the specifics of this incident, Sando and Freeman aren’t going to be the only ones with questions about Smith as a result of what’s gone down this offseason.
