Looks like someone missed out on the 2011 Rookie Symposium. Aldon is waaay too talented to be making stupid mistakes like this. That is the curse of being young with a lot of cash, you want to be “known & popular”, but in his case, the wrong way. The only silver lining that I can see coming out of all this mess is that he just so happens to be on a team that focuses on having the back of the player no matter the circumstance. Also, the leadership in that locker room will definitely pull Aldon back down to earth and remind him of his standing on the 49ers and the negative message he is sending, that it not only affects him but the team as a whole. I’m pretty sure (at least I hope) that there will not be too many of these off field problems in the future. Grow up Aldon…

Players are always criticized for “being in the club.” Now, this guy does the sensible thing and has a party at his home, and we’re criticizing him? Can you say hypocrites?

Excellent point. We also won’t believe the PR story his agent spun saying that Aldon Smith was merely an innocent bystander and was heroically trying to break up the fight until all the facts come out.

Regardless of what happened, Smith needs to find new friends or be more careful about who he invites to his parties. If Smith’s entourage/posse want to still bang/ carry weapons and be useless to a civilized society, then it’s a free country. However, Smith is a public figure and needs to become better than that.

If he was breaking up a fight, trying to do what is right, then I hope he heals up fine and comes out of this situation nearly unscathed. If there is a more insidious side to this whole happenstance, then I’m tired of the “these guys are young and immature” excuse. Why do we, as football fans, cut these players slack for everything? Look at the Vick situation, what he did was terrible. While they are just dogs, the depravity it would take to commit the act itself is more than terrible. The man did his time, deserves the opportunity to prove himself, but never forget what he actually did. Aldon Smith is a GROWN man, he went to a place of higher learning, he has been around adults all his life, don’t tell me he doesn’t know right from wrong. He is young, but he knows he will be more scrutinized as a pro-player. These men, need to act like they are men and we the fans, need to treat them like a men. Aldon was either doing what was right or he is a complete dumb@$$ that should be considered one strike away from extremely serious consequences.

Best line of the entire story. But, I bet people are going to draw conclusions anyway. Besides, two people got shot and one was stabbed, why wouldn’t it be “chaotic”?

I understand the point you are making. Obviously it would be ideal for Aldon to stay out of the news following the DUI incident earlier this offseason. However, at this point, all we know is that he was stabbed. He didn’t stab anyone. So to paint the picture that he is in the wrong here is just bad journalism. I’m sure you would argue that he should not have put himself in a position where “bad things” could happen, to which I would respond you can say that about anyone and everyone everywhere ever that has been a part of an incident. Whatever.

Smith is a very talented player and I would hate to see his career (or worse, his life) end because of the people he is alleged to associate with.

There should be red flags around the people he hangs out with if he gets stabbed just from trying to play hero and break up a fight. He sounds like the innocent party in this.
