Report: Vick wedding cost $300,000

michael-vick-kijafa-frink-2010-5-9-12-20-49 Getty Images

Pacman Jones once spent $1 million in a weekend, and Mike Vick has now dropped nearly a third of that amount in one day.

According to GossipExtra.com, a celebrity gossip site covering Miami, Palm Beach, and Broward Counties, Vick’s wedding at the Fountainbleau hotel in Miami Beach had a price tag of $300,000.

According to the report, the event included private poolside concerts by Flo Rida, Maroon 5, and Gymclass Heroes.

Guests included Eagles coach Andy Reid, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, Falcons receiver Roddy White, free-agent receiver Plaxico Burress, and former Saints quarterback (and Vick cousin) Aaron Brooks.

Security guards reportedly collected cameras and cell phones, so don’t expect to see many/any photos of the event on Twitter.

Though Vick can afford to drop $300,000 on a wedding, given that he received $35.5 million guaranteed as part of his 2011 contract with the Eagles, it doesn’t seem like the most prudent expenditure for a guy who is still paying off creditors following the filing of bankruptcy.

Yeah, the memories of the wedding will last a lifetime.  But that $300,000 plus the interest it could earn over the years could best something Vick eventually will need — especially if he’s willing to drop that much money to commemorate his marriage.

    =====================

Problem is, Vick doesn’t have the kind of money those rich dads do. Vick’s contract only contains $35.5 million guaranteed. After taxes, that’s like 22-24 million, AND HE WAS 20 MILLION IN DEBT when he signed the contract.

There’s a good chance that wedding cost vick 10-20 percent of his actual net worth.

Those rich dads have a heck of a lot more than that and will continue to earn for another 20-30 years…..Vick has about 5 more years to earn most of the money he will make in his entire life.

Can’t blame Vick for this one. As any married man will tell you it’s the woman who runs up the price of a wedding. No man is interested in paying money for all the frilly excessses that women insist are necessary for “their special day”. We would rather spend that money on more important things like big screens, boats, motorcycles….the REAL necessities. LOL!

  20. mjkelly77 says: Jul 2, 2012 10:30 AM

I wonder how much the divorce will cost? Maybe nothing as he’ll probably be declaring bankruptcy again by that time.

As I said before….who cares? His expenditures must be approved by the trustee of the court and if he was ok with it why is this news? Plenty of players get married so why the TMZ coverage of the cost? He has paid back before he signed his contract 80% of his creditors. You will censor this but keep the dog comments……figures.

  24. neilanblomi says: Jul 2, 2012 10:39 AM

average wedding cost in the USA is about 26,000. Vick spent 300,000 which is about 11.5 times more. vick also makes more then 11.5 times the average American salary.. I don’t see what the big deal is.

  28. siknutty says: Jul 2, 2012 10:53 AM

As much as I dislike Vick as a person, this is a non-story. With the amount of wealthy people in attendance, I’m sure he made a good chunk of change back in gifts. 300k is still a ridiculous amount to spend on a wedding.

  29. thraiderskin says: Jul 2, 2012 10:56 AM

Good for Vick, weddings are a huge moment in some people’s lives, hope its a happy(atleast $300,000 happy) marriage.

  30. fdugrad says: Jul 2, 2012 11:03 AM

It appears as though none of the after-football-life stories recently chronicled register with some current players. This story is truly instructive when illustrating the point, as M. Vick has already been involved with serious financial problems. Having the means to pay for such unnecessary lavishness does not mean one can ” afford ” to impulsively do so. The kind of future looming for present day pros depends on their daily decisions with their finances. Allowing that much money to run through one’s hands like so much sand does not auger well for Mr. Vick.

  31. piemasteruk says: Jul 2, 2012 11:04 AM

To be honest, $300,000 isn’t that much for someone of Vick’s standing to spend on a wedding. If you look at the numbers, the average wedding probably costs about $40,000 and Vick probably earns about 200 times as much as the average earner (approx, I haven’t actually done the math), so in reality this is a fairly cheap wedding.

Given the crap that footballers blow their fortunes on, spending it on something that is supposed to be the most important day of your life isn’t that big a deal. He should get some leeway on this one.

Piemasteruk has it right. This is just not that much money for someone making as much as he does. He has spent the last few years using most of his salary to pay back his huge fines and money owed, which he has completed now.

This is his wedding day, and the bride plans everything. I have been to a few weddings that cost between 50-100 thousand dollars that are paid by people that make 1/100 of what Vick does. This just isn’t that big a deal when you have hollywood weddings ranging in the $10-20 million range. I’d say they actually kept the cost quite low for their income bracket. Non-story.

Big ben has been accused of numerous sexual assaults and Donte Stallworth killed a person, I repeat, a person (btw he spent 30 days in jail). I don’t see what more this man has to prove to anyone. I say let him enjoy his day and stop watching his money.

All of you people who saying “he makes this, he can afford that” or “300k compared to what he is making now is nothing” are missing the point.

Yes, he makes a lot of money now. But he won’t be forever. Mike Vick is going to have 30 to 40 years of life left after football if he has a normal life span.

In those 30 to 40 years he will not make 1/10th of what he is making now. If he is like the average athlete, the money he makes during his football career represents over 90% of the money he will earn in his entire life.

Are you saying it’s NOT a good idea to live sensibly now and save for the future?

A quick Google search on “Vick Bankruptcy” revealed a TMZ article claiming Vick has attacked his debts with a “vengence” and as a few months ago was less than $400k in the hole.

And thus the difference between a blogger and a reporter. A reporter reports the facts. A blogger reports some of the facts, and then adds personal opinions full of scathing judgement and laughable inaccuracies.

As others have previously stated, Vick had nothing to do with the wedding costs. And yeah … all things considered, it sounds like she took it easy on him.

When it comes to weddings, the corporation that plans weddings (the mother of the bride, the bride, and sometimes her sisters) make all the decisions. The guy’s role is to writes check and remember to wear dark socks on the wedding day.

These days, some of the brides are even trying to plan and control the bachelor party … which is strictly off limits to her.

I still hate Vick over the dog fighting nonsense. I also haven’t forgotten how many NFL players came to his defense and said dog fighting was no big deal (e.g., Emmit Smith on the NFL Network). None of Vick’s supporters were called out by fans or PETA.

But complaining about how much he spent on his wedding is lame.

    Realitypolice,

Please have an idea of what you are talking about. After the 2011 season, he owed about 11 million. His finances are tightly controlled by a trustee who distributes his earnings between the creditors, taxes and Vick himself. In 2011, he made 20 mil and was distributed like this
    -6.76 mil to crditor
    -8 mil to taxes
    -5.24 to Vick

This was a court approved plan, after the 2013 season, he will most likely be paid up in full

Whats the over/under on dog comments?

    Ill start at 12.

    Queue the haters.

    ———————————————-

I read the over\under on games Vick plays this season before he gets absolutely lit up like a Christmas tree was 6.

My guess is week 4 Vick will make the biggest mistake of the year by scrambling to the left side and JPP is going to install a concussion directly into His life.

Also, I read that the over/under on SB’s the eagles get before 2050 is 1.

I’ll take the under on both

The real travesty is that realitypolice thinks $300k is 10-20% of $20 million. Another failure of the educational system.

85 other responses here never mention race.

The real injustice is when individuals bring race into conversations that have nothing to do with race. That is the true heart of a racist, trying to bring racial divide to situations & exchanges that have no bearing on it.

Do we pay his bills? I rest my case. Let the man live

Judging by his bankruptcy, HE doesn’t pay “his bills” either.

average wedding cost in the USA is about 26,000. Vick spent 300,000 which is about 11.5 times more. vick also makes more then 11.5 times the average American salary.. I don’t see what the big deal is.
    ===============

The big deal is that he is 20 million in debt and has screwed creditors out of millions.

And he will be making more than 11.5 times the average american salary for another 5-7 years max, and then will spend the last 30 to 40 years of his life earning much much less.

aw! was your daddy company vick screw with..TOO BAD!!! don’t forget to pay your creditor this month..OK!
FYI…creditor makes billion from people like you and I!!!!

Hey trash don’t forget to pay your bills this month or you will be out on the street. Mike Vick has 3 home that he owns and you trash could not afford to cut the grass more less pay the notes. Keep listing to Florios lies. The judge put him on a 300,000 a month spending until his bankruptcy was paid. Are you losers really that stupid to believe Vick owes anyone money? Pay your own damn bills if you can. I would post the link where it talks about him paying off all his debts but you dummies believe that racist facist Florio fine. It makes you feel good about your miserable life. Oh and he is on his honeymoon in Puerto Rico write about that losers.

He can do whatever he wants with his money. 3 comments though:

    1) He will most likely be bankrupt within a decade. This is not a man who seems to have learned any lessons since his jail time.

    2) When you declare bankruptcy, creditors get screwed over and have to take losses. So it’s a punch in the guy for them to take a loss on their money when this clown is throwing a $300k wedding.

    3) I’m no experts on weddings, but something tells me that getting 3 private concerts from those artists at the most expensive hotel in Miami/South Beach has got to cost more than $300k.

Anyways, it just sad to see these players blow money like this. Somehting like 75% of NFL players are bankrupt 5 years out of the league. The NFLPA should force them to pay into a retirement fund.

How much did Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cost? Who paid for the royals’ wedding?

    Realitypolice,

Please have an idea of what you are talking about. After the 2011 season, he owed about 11 million. His finances are tightly controlled by a trustee who distributes his earnings between the creditors, taxes and Vick himself. In 2011, he made 20 mil and was distributed like this
    -6.76 mil to crditor
    -8 mil to taxes
    -5.24 to Vick

This was a court approved plan, after the 2013 season, he will most likely be paid up in full

I guess they’re not keeping up, as of March Vick owed less than 400,000 on his bankruptcy, as of May he completed his probation. They can count the hell out of Vick’s money, I guess that leaves enough time for them to count their own, which would take less than 5 seconds, since they don’t have any.

realitypolice…300k…anyone that ran a gambling ring would not ever get a second chance…if they didn’t owe somebody something

borderline1988: Nearly 80 percent of NFL players are either bankrupt or in serious financial trouble just three years after leaving football.
Excessive spending is the reason so many former players are now lining up to sue the NFL over concussions. They need the money and are looking for one last big payday…
