Rick Upchurch battling cancer, raising money for chemotherapy

Rick Upchurch, the former Denver Bronco who was one of the best punt returners in NFL history, is battling leukemia and attempting to raise money to pay for his treatment.

The Chieftain newspaper in Pueblo, Colorado reports that Upchurch has leukemia and is receiving chemotherapy that costs about $10,000 a month. The Chieftain doesn’t make clear whether Upchurch, who played for the Broncos from 1975 to 1983, has health insurance or any other means to pay for his treatment, but he participated in a fundraiser in Pueblo over the weekend.

“I am not the first and I won’t be the last, so for all the cancer survivors and everybody that is going through it right now, we are all going through it together and we can defeat this,” Upchurch said.

Upchurch led the league in punt return average three times and in punt return touchdowns three times, and he was selected to four Pro Bowls.

Unfortunately, there will never be a cure for cancer because there is too much money being made raising money for research and developing a cure for cancer – essentially the cancer industry. Shame on them.

If we could only get someone as POTUS with help from his party to inact a comprehensive health care act, maybe this wouldn’t be so expensive for Mr Upchurch. Romney is the only that did such a thing while governor…….Good Luck Rick!

Let’s see, the Manning is worth $20 million to the Broncos as an unknown, & the whole state of Colorado is only worth 50K, how much is the great Rick Upchurch worth to them? Good luck in your battle Rich!

Not trying to make a jobe, try Kickstarter to raise money. Very popular service.

There absolutely is a cure for cancer. Several in fact. The only reason people don’t have mainstream access to them is because the FDA keeps them out of medical journals so the general public (kept in the dark) has no other alternative but to accept their standard of care that includes chemo (poison), radiation (poison) and surgery (invasive and ineffective).

Does he or does he not have insurance? I have no idea but I would think the NFL would have insurance that the players could purchase when they retire just as in private business. Fight on as I also remember you as a Golden Gopher.

Would be nice if the legislation didn’t create the largest middle class tax hike in the history of the United States (according to SCOTUS). I’m all for health care for everyone but the Orwellian stuff needs to stop.

Good luck Rick. I was a Broncos fan when you were playing!

    @nflofficeadmin:
    You are 100% correct.
There are cures for cancer. But there isn’t any money in them, so mainstream medicine buries them because there is much money in “treatment” and legalized drugs. Blood root, Essiac (w/blood root), laetrile (b-17), easter lily ovum, gerson’s coffee enema, and a number of others. A good naturopath will know the others. To the native American Indians, cancers was not a big deal, because they literally cured it with herbs, no problem. The Ojibwe Indians especially. This is all known by mainstream medicine, at least the guys at the top, but they suppress it, because again, there ain’t no money in it. You can’t patent and make huge profits on an herb; however, you can make huge profits on synthetic, petro-chemical drugs, and more huge profits by barbaric cutting and burning and radiating treatments.
You have to educate yourself. You can’t rely on the mainstream media, or mainstream anything. Follow the money.

It’s official – when profootballtalk becomes political……we have a very divided nation.

I thought all of us were supposed to come closer together over the last four years, not get further apart???

I’m only 39, but this is the most divided I’ve ever seen this country.

Better stay away from the chemo if you want to live.
