Saints ink two more draft picks

The Saints got a late start on the draft pick signing, but they are making their way quickly through the group now that they’ve started.

New Orleans announced Monday that they have agreed to contracts with defensive back Corey White and offensive tackle Marcel Jones on four-year deals. By PFT’s count, that leaves 34 draft picks still unsigned and Jones, on the left in the picture, becomes the last seventh-round pick to sign with his team.

Jones comes with the kind of size teams would like to see in a tackle, but he couldn’t stay healthy while he was at Nebraska and didn’t work out well at the combine. White, a fifth-round pick, played cornerback at Samford and there was some talk about moving him to safety in the NFL. The Saints haven’t done that, though, and expect to have White as part of the mix of players trying to earn snaps in sub packages.

With third-round defensive tackle Akiem Hicks signed last week, the Saints now have two unsigned picks — fourth-round wide receiver Nick Toon and sixth-round guard Andrew Tiller — remaining from a class without a second-round pick lost as part of the league’s bounty program discipline.

Yet they can’t seem to find the time to fit their franchise QB into contract?
