Sean Payton is getting divorced

Sean Payton’s bad 2012 isn’t getting any better.

Payton, the Saints head coach who is suspended for the year for his role in the team’s bounty program, is getting divorced, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

According to the report, Payton filed for divorce from his wife, Beth, citing “discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.” Beth filed a counter-petition asking for “exclusive right to designate the primary residence of the children in Tarrant County, Texas.”

Beth Payton is also asking for the exclusive right to make decisions about the medical, legal and educational interests of the couple’s two children, and she has requested that Sean Payton pay child support.

July 11 is Sean and Beth Payton’s 20th wedding anniversary.

Too bad. I feel for the kids. This has got to be an awful situation being out of football with nuttin to do all day. I think his suspention was without pay.

    Drew Brees demands an explanation.

Turns out she really appreciated it when Sean was busy coaching and not sitting at home.

  9. commonsensedude says: Jul 2, 2012 7:28 PM

I can’t help but feel bad for the guy. That’s a lot of bad news coming in the time span of a couple of months.

The only way this could turn out worse is if she were leaving him for Roger Goodell.

  10. iplaybad says: Jul 2, 2012 7:39 PM

SP is quite magnanimous but he’s (likely) dealing with a pain pill problem, the anger of a year-long suspension, and whatever else we haven’t hear about from the media. It is shocking that he and BP have stayed married for nearly 20 years.

  11. Seejepp says: Jul 2, 2012 7:42 PM

Man, this is terrible news. I hate to hear it. It’s not his year.

  14. shinnbone says: Jul 2, 2012 7:53 PM

He’s unemployed, of course she wants a divorce….

  15. woodyg says: Jul 2, 2012 7:53 PM

Once Payton returns to the Saints in 2013 he’ll now be able to hire his EX as OC or maybe ST coach because nepotism will no longer be a factor.

Give Sean credit. He’s always thinking.

  16. thraiderskin says: Jul 2, 2012 7:56 PM

So you want the kids, the decision rights, the house is Texas and his money? neat!

  17. geauxjay says: Jul 2, 2012 8:07 PM

Sounds like Roger Goodell has found another potential whistleblower.

Meanwhile, maybe all you knuckleheads who are so bent out of shape because Sean Payton isn’t trying any harder to express his innocence can shut up now.

  18. bigtganks says: Jul 2, 2012 9:00 PM

This is just part of a smear campaign.

  19. morgan420 says: Jul 2, 2012 9:01 PM

Sounds like a typical divorce the woman wanting control of pretty much anything that has significant value or anything to use against the husband and why not throw in over priced child support just cause he makes big money. U know shes going to wants alimony “i call it wife support” cause “shes used to a specific life style”, I guess she should get a job and not mooch off your ex husband. But belive me I understand its hard to work pay the bills take care of the kids cook clean ect… So why not take the easy way out?

  20. wtfchiefs says: Jul 2, 2012 9:02 PM

It always amazes me how these women, who have earned next to nothing, think they deserve everything these men have worked their butts off for, AND the kids, AND child support.

It’s called “Get a job and your own place.” Damn succubus’

  21. 1oldpro says: Jul 2, 2012 9:04 PM

When he was coaching, he was probably never home. Now he’s home and they can’t get along. Apparently she can’t produce enough evidence that they belong together, so he is suspending their marriage.
Make him cover the cellphone bill, because of the twenty hours a day texting coaching instructions.

  22. peytonsneck18 says: Jul 2, 2012 9:06 PM

Hes gonna put a bounty on her divorce lawyer soon

  23. buccaroo989 says: Jul 2, 2012 9:08 PM

I’m sure the Saint fans are already trying to find a way to blame Goodell for this too!

  24. andrewfbrowne says: Jul 2, 2012 9:09 PM

  25. 49ersgiants4life says: Jul 2, 2012 9:14 PM

This is the best/worst time for Sean Payton to get divorced the best part is he has no income so his child support won’t be as much as it would of been

I got divorced two years ago… aside from the issues with the kids… this guy’s gonna have a ball.

    Being single ain’t so bad… I’m sure more-so if you’re rich and famous :)

  29. clevelandschronic2 says: Jul 2, 2012 9:22 PM

  30. arlingtonsynn says: Jul 2, 2012 9:29 PM

I really do hope this isn’t Sean preparing to hit bottom.

If you combine pills, a year long suspension, and divorce… this might be an epic meltdown that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

    That being said……

First comment though was total gold!

  31. upperdecker19 says: Jul 2, 2012 9:30 PM

  33. silentcount says: Jul 2, 2012 9:34 PM

Why again was Sean Payton suspended for a year? Oh yeah, for denying what the disgruntled coach who was fired claimed. The same angry coach who has since recanted what he said. Looks like Payton didn’t really deserve his severe punishment after all. Hmmm.

  34. monkeyboymotors says: Jul 2, 2012 9:36 PM

He, got tired of her interrupting Drew’s nightly bedtime tuck in. So, he filed before she filed. If I didn’t have a job, that’swhat I’d do. 25, 30, 35, 40% of zero is cheaper than what the cheater would would have to pay next year!

  35. vader7176 says: Jul 2, 2012 10:04 PM

Nobody gets divorced after three months of problems after 20 years of marriage. Could winning a Super Bowl, fame and fortune, and the New Orleans nightlife that goes with it have contributed? I know Sean is a classy guy. He wouldnt do that. He wouldn’t lie to the NFL. He wouldn’t cheat on his wife ( so why’d he move to texas a year ago? maybe to mend a fence?). Heck of a coach– yes. But remember TO is a heck of a receiver it doesnt mean he’s a choir boy. So go ahead and believe the image he and his buddy Brees project. It doesn’t mean they aren’t jerks.

  46. tebowsafraud says: Jul 2, 2012 10:23 PM

Anyone heard from Gregg William’s wife lately?

  47. Andre's Johnson says: Jul 2, 2012 10:26 PM

Is Louisiana a community property state? She may be focusing on the Texas residency angle because of Texas’ generous laws.

By the way, I think we can all agree she’s the one who put the bounty on his knee last season.

  48. tebowsafraud says: Jul 2, 2012 10:43 PM

I guess her request for alimony and half of the couple’s assets could be labeled “pay for performance”…..?

  49. rhett16 says: Jul 2, 2012 10:49 PM

I can only assume the league has video of Beth Peyton shouting “Give me my money!”

you try raising kids alone most of the time… I realize that between welfare and your mama you dont have to take care of your kids, but seriously? to act as if being a stay at home mom is easy?
i love my kids and i wouldnt want that gig.

oh and how exactly do you know she didnt earn anything….

  53. ajpurp says: Jul 2, 2012 11:48 PM

How is everyone jumping on her for divorcing and not waiting a year? Dudes HE filed for divorce, not her. Divorce is not something you file to get a “jump” on the other as it has no legal benefit, in fact if she divorces him without any reason, such as cheating, he will be better off because the judge is more likely to be kind

  54. mojosmagic says: Jul 3, 2012 12:38 AM

Hope he doesn’t put a bounty out on her.

  55. reggiebush25 says: Jul 3, 2012 12:40 AM

Is Peyton rollin in the hay with Willie Roaf’s wife? Or was it Joe Horn….

  56. ayyyeh says: Jul 3, 2012 12:41 AM

This is entirely unfair and disasterous – a man who goes through the problem of his nature in the field that he is in has lived and died 3 times – a divorce is living and dying once (many people divorce, but the stress and the havoc on aging and the nervous system is horrid). That is four lives lived and expired in such a short time period – my his muscles of strength and resilience carry him on to be 4 times the man, and go at the end being proclaimed as someone worthy of being mimicked.

It is unfortunate that the distress Sean Payton is experiencing, though it be great and almost equivalent to an incredible disease, is one in which the public will not be so supportive (a divorce is not the same as cancer, but health wise, the results are still entirely corruptive).

  57. besdayz says: Jul 3, 2012 12:55 AM

For what its worth this was a long time coming and probably has little to do with recent events. His wife wanted to live in Dallas and moved there about a year and half ago with the kids. Sean was against it and this created a little stir in the Saints fan base about a coach heading to cowboy country.

But the backstory was it was a separation which has now apparently become irreconcilable. I’m sure the bounty thing didn’t help but the marriage was failed years ago looks like

  58. djaehne says: Jul 3, 2012 2:16 AM

Maybe she found her name on his bounty list.

Theres nothing classy about this guy. Hes been cheating on his wife for YEARS! I’m sure all players/coaches do it since theyre on the road all the time but theres still no excuse. I know one of his “mistresses”, he’d fly her to road games and to the Combine every year. Never brought her to NO or wore his wedding ring around her…gee I wonder why!! He deserves all of this, hes brought it on himself

Hey Obession55: I agree this has been a long time coming. Do you mind sharing the name of his mistress? I know he is “dating” or should I say “doing” Skylene Montgomery now and as far back as fall 2011. I think it is time for the real story to come out and to show that this isn’t his first infidelity. Do tell!
