[ this may happen anyway !] Capitalism is great, until we look at pro sports…then we have a runaway train of hyper inflated salaries that are going to break the bank of the fans who fund this running disaster ! I think time will prove this.

Agents nothing. Some teams had all of their picks signed three weeks after the draft. All the same agents, different players.

Same old story – unsigned rookies hurting their teams during the season because they held out during camp. Michael Crabtree, anyone?

There is no “rookie wage scale.” The new CBA eliminated some of the variables in rookie contracts and gave rookies less money overall, but there is nothing actually predetermined about any rookie’s contract.

There is somewhat of a de facto wage scale because the NFLPA accidentally revealed the rookie pool values last year, but there’s nothing that says teams can’t pay a rookie more or less than the RP value of the draft pick used on him. Some players get more, and some get less — although most do get the same as their RP value.

The only thing that matters to the CBA is that the player’s first-year contract value is more than the minimum for his slot and that the team doesn’t spend more than its total rookie pools.

Glad to see the Eagles have all their picks under contract. I’ve seen enough first seasons get wasted due to a hold out, and some times those guys never get back on track.

Since there is this ridiculous rookie scale, however, all first round contracts should be fully guaranteed as a matter of course.

I really don’t understand these comments siding with the owners. These rookies are getting many, many millions less than rookies two and more years ago due to the new rookie wage scale. Now the owners are also trying to get out of guaranteed contracts and include offset language … Things that were not done earlier. The teams are paying less and also wanting more favorable contracts. That’s fine, I guess, they are trying to get the best deal for themselves. Isn’t it ok for the payers to do that too? Most NFL careers are very short and many players end up with lifelong injuries … Personally, I think the players should try to get the best deal they can too. I fault the teams for their efforts to not guarantee the contracts and for the offset language … They won the rookie wage scale and that was a HUGE benefit for them … I think they should consider that a victory and give these rookies favorable contracts..

These aren’t holdouts in that sense. These negotiations are ongoing. The wage scale determines how much money each pick gets not HOW they get it. Cam Newton’s contract, if I remember correctly, was a fully guaranteed 25 million without offsets, incentive based pay…”straight cash homie.” That has set a precedent for handling premier rookies. There is no doubt in my mind that Luck, RG3 and most likely T. Richardson expect the same treatment.

All of the unsigned draft picks show up for OTAs and minicamp. They are protected financially against injury.

Riley Reiff hasn’t signed either, but at least he’s been to all of the OTA’s and mini camp. Nothing worse than a selfish rookie. They want to get paid for having done nothing.

Gotta wonder what the holdup with Dontari Poe is. You’d think that his numbers would be easy to figure out now that the 10th and 12th picks have been signed.
