Smart Pro Athletes know that the items aren’t worth it in terms of financial security. We are even seeing it in baseball right now as players are auctioning off certain items to raise money for their kid’s college education and/or special services for their disabled family member
We don’t know the real reason for this, maybe there is something more to it than just “chucking a ring out the window.”

Dont forget the front office executives ring which was found during a drug bust. The old “someone stole it” line was used. Clearly used to buy drugs, this ring can be considered sold as well.

Unless you are Desmond Howard or Andre Rison, I don’t get your obsession with their departures from Green Bay (two posts in two days, 15 years after the fact). Don’t forget, Howard left via free agency when the Raiders overpaid and came back to Green Bay two years later. Rison played 5 regular season games for the Packers, and had a history of being a pain in the @$$ for every team he played for. Why would we expect him to have behaved differently in GB? Also, don’t forget, the Packers made the Super Bowl without either player in the 97-98 season, and their offense was not the reason they lost to the Broncos.

There’s some element of truth to this. Basic economics, really. Since there have been 13 World Championships for the Packers, there are just more rings in supply than any other team.

They call it a Super Bowl ring but the 56 player starting roster gets the better ring over the 90 player team.

Does anyone realize that the practice squad and personall gets the cheap ring?

I can kind of understand it with a practice squad player. These guys are not on huge salaries and they are often shuffled from team to team so don’t really develop much loyalty. Nor will he really feel like he did much to earn the ring. If it was me I doubt I would sell it, but I understand.

I agree with wanting to sell it because if you didn’t play then you didn’t contribute to the win therefore you didn’t win anything and a ring commemorating the ring would mean nothing.however when his playing days are over he will regret it unless he’s on another super bowl winning team.
