The problem is, people let their bias for their team and the media perception affect their own opinions. Better QB? I'd say they're both very good QBs. Romo is a better athlete but Manning has shown he's not too shabby, either. The perception Romo is a choke artist is just wrong, though. Sure, he dropped the snap against Seattle but if he hadn't led them the length of the field to get into FG position with time running out, they wouldn't have had the FG opportunity anyway. Romo has led Dallas down the field many times toward the end of games and had his receiver drop a sure TD (Crayton, TO) or his kicker miss the FG (too many names to list here). Also, Romo has given his team the lead again and again just to watch his D play Prevent and prevent the Cowboys from winning. Manning has had the opposite. The Giants win and lose as a TEAM, unlike Dallas. Things may be changing, though. Garrett, although young and still learning on the job, is bringing in better players on both sides of the ball. If Romo's OL finally keeps him from getting killed each game, Dallas could be adding to their 5 SB titles and 8 SB appearances.

To all the Eli haters, you're absolutely correct, Romo clearly has better stats. But to say Eli only won because of defense? You're wrong, as important as it was for the DLine to stifle offenses (which they didn't do all too often) Tuck, Osi nor JPP threw the ball into Manninghams hands... Strahan didn't dodge a sack in 07 to even attempt that miracle play. Eli did. Plain and simple. And to say he had the better all around team? The top 3 receivers on the giants didn't make as much combined as Austin or Witten. He worked with a patchwork crew and made due, would Romo be able to do that? A QB isn't just stats, he is the leader of the offense, and by the looks of things one has led his team a lot further than the other.

All this quarterback talk is enough to make my head explode.
If the Steelers could win two Super Bowls with Ben Roethlisberger as their quarterback, I'm pretty sure the Cowboys could win at least one with Romo; that the Ravens could win at least one with Flacco; and that the 49ers could win at least one with Smith.
Football is a TEAM sport. Football is the ultimate TEAM sport.
It has been said that the NFL is a ``quarterback-driven league.'' If that's true, why aren't the league's ``elite'' quarterbacks (Brady, P. Manning, Brees, and Rodgers) winning Super Bowls every season?
Tom Brady is the perfect example. Back when the Patriots actually won Super Bowls, they did so with a strong defense and an accurate placekicker. The better Brady has gotten, the less the Super Bowls his teams have won.
Even when the Colts won their Super Bowl, Peyton Manning didn't play particularly well in the postseason. The Colts defense carried the team, especially in the Super Bowl by forcing five Bears turnovers.
Until quarterbacks play offense, defense and special teams, they should not be regarded as being bigger than their respective teams.

As a Packers fan, it's a no brainer. Having to face the Giants and Eli Manning in the playoffs scares me. Facing the Cowboys and Tony Romo, not so much.

Romo may have the stats, but Manning is one of the most clutch quarterbacks ever. I can attest to that (2007 and 2011.)

Eli Manning may be the most clutch player in NFL history. Time after time, he delivers in the 4th - I've never really believed in the concept of 'clutch', but if there's one person to disprove that belief, it's Eli Manning.

That being said, Amani Toomer is correct that Tony Romo is the better QB. The Cowboys are one of the most dysfunctional teams in the NFL...they constantly find ways to blow games, in all types of ways.
Contrast that to the Giants, who have one of the most physical and performing defense in the league. They also have always had a tremendous running game and offenisve line. The NFL is the biggest team-game, and you cannot discount what a team does for you.
Would Eli Manning be in any of those clutch situations, if his defense wouldn't keep the game close?

At the end of the day, there's no question that Eli Manning is the man in the 4th, and Romo, at least at the surface, seems to blow games when under pressure.
To win a Superbowl, you would need a very good, all around team, no matter who your QB is. And if my team had a great running game, and one of the best defenses in the league, I'm taking Eli Manning b/c he has the confidence to deliver the goods.

Statistics-wise, I guess, Romo is, hands down, a better QB than Eli. But before someone discounts Eli's accomplishments, oh wait, haters already jumped on that, allow me to remind you all (as someone up top said it!).

Yes, American Football is the ultimate team game. But how many times, even when the Giants won the SB (both times), have the prognosticators, analysts, and of course, lest we forget, dia hard Cowboys fans, claimed that their team, on paper and on the field, were a far superior team than both those Giants team, even before a game was played, when the games were being played, and when the season ended? Please someone answer that question.

Like it or not, Romo would not have won if he was under center in those SB winning Giants team.

Let me remind you all haters again, you can't claim that Eli and the Giants got lucky and won two SB and then also say that they had a kinda, sorta better team than the Cowboys and that is why they won it all. Pick one Eli hating comment and stick with it.

Look, you can throw all the statistics you want, but both you and I know, fact of the matter is, you can't talk about Romo without mentioning his numbers and stats and them being better than Eli, and not also say anything about his one playoff win and lack of SB ring. But talk about Eli, and maybe his pedestrian numbers, but you can't forget about his playoff and championship wins.

When it comes down to it, when the game is on the line, I would chose Eli over Romo, anyday, anytime. Eli has proven his clutch, Romo has been nothing but cluts!!!

You Romo fans are something else, how can you say rings don't mean a thing? What do you think every starting QB goal is throughout their career? They want a superbowl ring, Romo would tell you that he wants a ring. Can't get that with only one playoff win in his career, tebow has the same amount. In fact I rather have tebow as my QB in the forth quarter than Romo because he chokes when it comes to closing out a game. How can you say that Romo would have more rings if he was a giant? The cowboys had much better receivers and RBs than eli, their o line is better, how many times did eli had to get out of a sack or been sacked. Put eli on the cowboys and he'll have more than the two rings he has now because like his brother, he turns no namers into stars.

Romo does not have heart. If Romo was the Back for the Giants when they played the 18-0 Pats and Steve Smith tips the ball to Asante that would have been the beginning of the end as Romo would have been trying to force passes in. Romo would have went done when Bruschi and Adalius Thomas had his Jersey and pulling him. Romo would have tried to throw it to Nicks and Cruz Even though Belichik had his Safeties watching them and leaving Manningham on 1-1 situations. U heard T.O. say Romo will force the ball to “his boy Witten” even though T.O. was wide open down the field. I’m sorry but 31-10 Versus below 500 teams just dnt measure up to SB MVP’s

No heart? Yeah, the same guy that played with a fractured rib and punctured lung and wore a kevlar vest and still played better than Eli this year.

No heart? The guy that was going back into the game against "your Giants" with a broken collar bone in 2010.

No heart? The guy that played agains the "Giants in the last game of the season with a black and blue balloon like swollen throwing hand and still manages a 106 passer rating. Yeah, no heart.....

Eli is popular right now because the Giants won the Super Bowl.

That doesn’t change the fact that he’s a mediocre QB.

If the Defense was Lights out then there would be NO lead changes. Eli should Cruz to Victory.
Amani - your only ring came from the hands of Eli Manning. Eliminating Romo along the way, in his own house.

There is no question about it - Eli shows up when he absolutely must. Tony beats the teams he should, and rarely shows up in the big moment.

You can google whatever stats you want.
Percentages don't account for bigtime downs, when your back is against the wall.

1) Romo’s career passer rating of 96.9 is the second-highest in the history of the NFL. Passer rating is far from a perfect measure of quarterback performance, but it says something that Romo ranks ahead of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.

Yeah what it says is that passer rating is not a good measure of who is the better QB because would anyone out there take Romo over any of those three? Romo isn't even close to any of those three and he isn't close to Eli either. When it counts Eli steps up and makes the plays. Romo . . . not so much.

Eli has had a run game and a defense where the cowboys have not.

---

You mean the run game ranked dead last in just about every category last season? THAT run game? Oh and lets not forget that 29th ranked defensive powerhouse. As for who throws how many INT's, let me know when Romo puts the ball in the air as much as Eli does in a game. Eli threw the ball 67 more times than Romo, and has 6 more INT's.

The Giants are no longer a smashmouth, clock-killing offense, and they haven't been for quite some time. More throws are going to increase the probability of more INT's.

Believe me, no one in their right mind is taking Romo over Manning other than Dallas "fans"(and I use the term loosely) and the Fantasy Football clowns who live and die by stats.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing the Dilfer / Marino argument. Yeah Dilfer has a ring and Marino doesn't. I get the irony, but are we really trying to compare Romo to Marino??? I don't think so.

Besides, at least Marino PLAYED in a Super Bowl... True, it's not JUST about having a ring, but when you only have one playoff win and you're halfway through your career then your career has not been a success.
