Sorry bud but you are jumping the gun here. Wait to see what the video portrays before slinging judgements at AD.

And what planet do you live on? Apparently no good parent can ever have a late night with friends, EVER?!! Last time I checked, there are (in most cases) two parents involved in raising children.

I agree, cops and firefighters are heros. But heros come in all forms. What do you know about what he does for the community? How many people does he help?

Some random thoughts:

If AP pushed someone for telling him to leave a bar after closing, it doesn't matter if the guy was off-duty, or if he announced himself...It is still assault, and AP deserved to be arrested. If he then resisted arrest, then he's guilty of that separately, even if the assault charge is ultimately dismissed.

AP has a 9-year-old daughter at home, that's where he belongs at 2am., not out partying.

No problem with his dad's comments, except where they pertain to the arrest incident, since he wasn't there.

And finally, as a Bears fan I have no problem admitting that Adrian Peterson is a great football player...But playing football for a very nice living does not make you a hero. Being a cop or a firefighter, and risking your life everyday for less money in a lifetime than AP makes in a season...That's a hero.

Gotta love all the LOSERS who automatically blame the cop instead of their great athlete hero who couldn’t POSSIBLY do anything wrong! None of you were there and there aren’t enough details to come to a conclusion. My guess is that both parties may have been somewhat to blame, and yes, the cop could have been a bit over zealous. BUT, to lay blame solely on the “dirty” cop is laughable. Obviously, AP was drunk and was not cooperating with the cop/bouncer.

Have any of you ever had to deal with drunk, belligerent people? Oh wait, all you cop-haters probably ARE drunk, belligerent people!

My personal belief is that police target celebrities & sports fiqures They know it will make headlines and press coverage! Ap's dad did his time and has paid dearly for his crime. Having spent time in jail I can tell you that it most certainly has a lasting effect on your children, I broke the law, and my kids did the real time! Let's all take a deep breath! and see how this whole thing works out!

Cops should not be allowed to work off duty at bars, plain and simple. It's a giant scam. I've DJ'd at radom bars here in Chicago and it's a really horrilbe thing.

I've witnessed a place half way packed with underaged kids getting served and that's no problem. The cop knows about that and doesn't care. What they like to do is wait until just before closing time, then start antagonizing drunks. Most of us know it doesn't take much to get a reaction. They get them to start up then arrest them. Sure makes the state a lot of money.

My guess is that both parties may have been somewhat to blame, and yes, the cop could have been a bit over zealous. BUT, to lay blame solely on the "dirty" cop is laughable. Obviously, AP was drunk and was not cooperating with the cop/bouncer.

Gotta love all the LOSERS who automatically blame the cop instead of their great athlete hero who couldn’t POSSIBLY do anything wrong!
I will wait for more of the facts to come out but I've been in enough clubs (enough times, lol) to know that it is not unusual for the bouncers etc. to have to tell patrons several times over about it being closing time and it's time to leave and it rarely leads to an altercation. I also trust less any police officer who works off-duty at clubs. It doesn't take an Einstien to know there are a variety of illegal activities taking place at any popular club on any given night. The club owners, employees, and yes off-duty officers who work there are aware of these activities and for me that makes an off-duty officer who works at a club to be less trustworthy. As for the club owner, what else is he going to say except to stick up for the officers, becuz he obviously wants to stay in business without hassle from cops. An off duty cop who works for a club could just as well be working as a bodyguard for a Hell's Angel or as a butler at a meth house, LOL

thesixersbench - Finally, whatever the truth is, I hope it does come to light. AP has always seemed like an upstanding, high-character individual.

Ironically, the same people running down the Houston Police Department are the same ones defending Peterson while telling others that they quote "weren't there."

Police Officers, for the most part, are some of the most outstanding citizens in our communities. To become a Police Officer you have to pass background checks, polygraph exams, psychological exams, they even have to have good credit.

What's it take to play football in the NFL ? You have to have athletic talent. Half these guys don't even score double digits on the Wonderlic.

The most telling aspect of Peterson's arrest is his mugshot. If you're outraged, angry, mad, and seeking medical attention for shortness of breath, why do you have a stupid looking grin on your face ?

NFL players think they can do whatever they want to whoever they want because no one can touch them. I'll bet Peterson and his group had no idea they were messing with a real cop and thought they were messing with some stupid bouncer.

"I know there a lot of cops on these boards that don’t like hearing about one of their own doing something like this.

However, if you are a cop you also know there are cops out there that lie, cheat and intentionally provoke situations like this. You also know that the fact that the assault charge was immediately dropped means that no assault ever happened, which is exactly why Peterson reacted the way he did.

Dirty cops should not have good cops rally around them."

Unfortunately, whistle blowers within the police force typically have their careers considerably shortened or made more difficult.

It is not a fair or just system of retribution for such a courageous act.

We need to let this one play out a bit. Closing time is tough on the bar staff and customers can be a little touchy when being chased out the door. The cops are tough on bars that allow customers to remain after hours so there is pressure on the staff to get them out the door.

Bar bouncer was an off-duty officer. Probably not in uniform or was he? Cops always know they are cops and sometimes expect the same response from people whether they are in uniform or not.

Take alcohol into the mix and there are potential problems. At this point I don't find the cop's explanation completely convincing nor do I find Peterson's explanation as the final answer. Closing time is a tough time of the night.
