Die hard ravens fan here, and they need to see what Tandon Doss can do. I know Doss is too similar a player to Boldin to have them on the field at the same time, but Boldin isn’t young or cheap. Doss is. Let’s see what we have Coach Cameron.

The Ravens are deep at WR this year though. IMO some good prospects will have to be let go, either Tandon Doss, Laquan Williams, Tommy Streeter or Deonte Thompson. Don’t want to see any of them go. Good news is David Reed will be gone though, never will forgive him for that Seattle game…

As a Ravens fan living in Houston I didn’t get this signing one bit? Not just because I got to see Jones inconsistent play first hand, but watching a team miss out on the Super Bowl two years straight cause of past-their-prime receivers drop easy passes, who at least, were consistent receivers at one time?

Again, Jones has never been consistent, so WTH? I’m hoping some of the younger talent like Laquan Williams or Tandon Doss can push this guy out of the #3 role, but time will tell. He should at least give our anemic return game a boost, pending he can hold on to the ball?

If he can’t catch in practice what chance will he have in the regular season against the AFC North?

Even the Browns and Bengals have physical secondaries, not to mention the Steelers.

Jones might be a huge bust….

No Andre Johnson was the reason in the regular season. Take away boldin or rice and the ravens would’ve been in a similar situation.

In week 6 of last year the Ravens beat the Texans for the first time that season. The Texans leading receiver was Jacoby Jones and Jones scored the Texans only offensive TD.

Simple physics and anatomy here. When you have small 8.5 inch hands (Jones) you’re going drop more and fumble more than a guy with average size 9.5 inch hands.

Don’t worry too much about him dropping passes. He won’t run proper routes, so he’s not gonna be open.
But one thing to look forward to: When it’s a big game and he fumbles, it’s a Raven’s touchdown!

His drops should go way down in Baltimore.

Offensive Genius Cam Cameron doesn’t waste his time with such nonsense as “third receivers” anyway, so it’s not like he’ll be on the field to drop the ball that often.

Jones’ contract is reported as a 2-year $7 Million deal, but he’s making $1.6 million in 2012 ($900K to sign and $700K in base salary)…then there is a roster bonus and incentive laden 2nd year for 2013.

My guess is that he end up a one-year rental with return skills to hedge Baltimore’s bets for one of their young WRs taking the next step (or selecting one early in next years draft), and Jones will not see that “$7 million.”

Jones has big shoes to fill playing the role of team goat that was previously held down by TJ Houshmanzadah in 2010 and Lee Evans in 2011.

Anyway, I wasn’t a fan of this move and I am still not. Jones has stunk while there has been nothing but praise for second year guys Tandon Doss and LaQuan Williams. The Ravens fear of playing young receivers had led them to make desperation moves like signing Houshmanzadeh and giving up valuable draft picks for Lee Evans. This seems eerily similar to that. You liked them enough to draft or sign them, now have enough faith in yourself and PLAY THEM.

I said the minute my team signed him it was a bad signing, especially at 2 yr 7 million. The Ravens already had candidates to return kickoffs and punts as well as candidates for the third receiver job in Tandon Doss (who was the Hoosier’s return guy while he was there) and Laquan Williams (who looked good returning punts in preseason last year). If you don’t give the young bucks the reps to show what they can do, why even draft them when you’re going to just try and band aid it with a slightly above average returner and below average receiver? I’ll reserve all of my judgement until he starts dropping them in real games, but IMO by far the only poor offseason move the Ravens made… I really hope he proves the doubters like me wrong and if he does I’ll be the first on his bandwagon, something tells me its not likely though

The Ravens shouldn’t be surprised. Jacoby’s muffed punt is why they beat the Texans in the playoffs last year. That and the 3rd string QB starting for the Texans.
