Muhammad Wilkerson “grateful” to have escaped wreck unscathed

The Jets have high hopes for defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, but he’s still having a hard time talking about the car wreck that nearly grounded him.

Wilkerson told Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger he’s “grateful everyone is fine” after flipping his car in June.

No one was seriously injured, but Wilkerson left with stitches in his right forearm and a long scar down the side of his neck. He described those as “minor bumps and bruises,” and said Jets doctors have given him a clean bill of health.

“With that situation, obviously I’m grateful that everyone is fine, nobody was hurt seriously,” Wilkerson said. “It was a tragedy that it happened but I’m just happy everybody is okay and I’m blessed to be here.

“Things happen in life and I’m blessed to be here, blessed and happy that everyone else is safe and nobody was truly injured or hurt.”

Wilkerson was charged with careless driving after the accident, and is fortunate to be able to talk about it at all, with no long-term injuries.
