Redskins rookies report for duty next Monday.

The most significant among them said he expects to have his contract signed by then.

Second overall pick Robert Griffin III said he believes negotiations are close enough that being on time is a reasonable expectation. Of course, there’s not much to negotiate besides offset language, so that could be said by every unsigned first-rounder in the league.

“I talked to my agent the other day, and he said they had been talking last week then took a break over the weekend, but from what I’ve heard I think it’s gonna get done,” Griffin said, via the Washington Post. “I think my agent and the Redskins both know it’s paramount for me to be in camp on time, and I think they’re going to work towards that.”

The full team doesn’t report to training camp until July 25, but Griffin said he hopes to not miss any of the individual work rookies can get in before then.

“I’ll be in D.C. on Thursday. I will be there this Thursday, and hopefully by the 16th, I’ll be signed and ready to go,” he said. “I have no objections — I’m not trying to hold out or make it seem like it’s not a big deal. It’s just [that] I’m not concerned about it, because I’m sure they’ll make it happen.”

At the moment, he’s one of 31 total picks, including 14 first-rounders, who have yet to sign.
