Rookie WRs rarely contribute (yeah, I know about A.J. Green, but that was an exception to the rule). And this guy, after missing the 2011 season plus this spring’s OTAs, has virtually NO chance of contributing in 2012. The Browns are completely revamping their offense with rookies (Weeden, Richardson, Schwartz and now this guy), and it’s not realistic to expect rookies to swoop in and turn a woebegotten franchise around. Maybe in 2-3 years the team will start showing signs of competitiveness. In 2012, with a tough schedule, even a 6-10 season seems ridiculously optimistic.

my fellow browns fans arent ya tired of everybody bashing us??? we are not the only team in the nfl that hasnt been too or have won a superbowl, people forget we are 1 of the all time winning teams in all of football history.

This guy has obvious talent , he is a beast in terms of size! Once he gets himself into pro shape, there is NO telling what he can do!
If he can realize the gift, and keep himself out of trouble, I see this kid as being a star! Kudos to Cleveland for pulling the trigger!

Personally I wanted the browns to bring in Troy smith and spend the weeden pick elsewhere. I don’t mind the wr here. They could be pretty good this year IMO

The reality is, we don’t know how this will play out. He may end up being a steal. If it was New England who grabbed him everyone would be applauding the move. In no way am I a browns fan but I hope it works out.

Look I’m with everyone in hoping that this guy has learned from his mistakes, but does anybody else find it disturbing that Gordon was essentially banned from Baylor’s football program for smoking weed while Justin Blackmon and Michael Floyd were arrested for DUI, legitimately putting other lives in danger, and barely suspended by their programs? Obviously Gordon was making stupid decisions too, but these aren’t decisions that are really out of the norm for people who are perfectly responsible at the same age.

Cuz that ALWAYS works out well. Clearly they’re bringing young guys in and molding them in their system as they grow as a player and a professional. That’s been the plan all along. Draft, draft, and draft, and bring in an occasional vet or two who fits what you’re trying to do. NOT go for the bargain deal and shrug when it doesn’t work out.

As a Browns fan, I have no problem with this pick whatsoever. Sure, it’s easy to call it a reach or desperate or whatever, but few of us are professionals who really know anything about scouting, talent evaluation, etc. The Browns needed an infusion of talent at WR and, based on their evaluation, they thought he would provide that. Buffalo would have drafted him in the 3rd round, one pick ahead of Cleveland if they hadn’t pulled the trigger in the 2nd. Dallas was looking seriously at this guy.

Maybe he will bust, maybe not. I’d rather take the chance and fail than not take the chance at all. Browns deserve some credit for working hard to improve the roster. Time will tell if they will succeed, but they are being aggressive and, as a fan, I appreciate that.

Looking back at all the jokers that have been in charge of assembling this team since 1999, and the lack of vision for its future, I have to say that Tom Heckert has the testicular fortitude to do it the right way. Not afraid to pull the trigger. Not afraid of negative criticism.

The man is very good at his job…and I am proud he is in control of rebuilding the Cleveland Browns, the RIGHT way.

Say what you want about this decision but the Browns know if they can somehow just manage to score 15 points a game they’ll sweep the Steelers.

There’s only so much an elite pro bowl quarterback can do.

As a Steelers fan, I’m actually hoping the Browns get slightly more competitive (keyword: slightly) just so the rivalry gets a little more interesting.

Just as long as they stick w/ their own identity & don’t go Raven-style w/ attempting to copy every facet of our organization. (which even in a copy-cat league was/is rather a pathetic move that has stuck since Art made the move)
