I’ve been over Reed’s position since it began. He is too old, has had too many injuries in recent years, and has expressed too many times that he is contemplating retirement over the past 3 years to provide any incentive or justification to Ozzie and the front office to give him more money or extend his contract. His motives are as transparent as they come. If he gets what he wants, he will take the money and retire after this season.

“[H]e believes he needs to stick up for other players on the issue of getting paid.” LMAO. What a joke, Ed. We all know you are only doing this for yourself. Fine. Sit at home. Thanks for all the good years.

I am over it…Ray Rice wants AP money, Joe Flacco wants Drew Brees money, and Suugs said he wants a new contract after he comes back from injury. Now here comes Ed Reed asking for a new contract knowing we have to sign two major players. I hope ownership takes a stand for the long-term future of our team.

There are a lot of players out there demanding money they know they’ll never earn. Brees is being very open with the fact that he wants guaranteed money even if he’s knocked out of football. Ed Reed is 34 and at speed position. The odds that he’ll be worth somewhat less each year from here on out are very good.

Even a 3 year contract would be guaranteeing big bucks to a 37 year old DB… Very few DBs have performed in the upper echelons at that age. Maybe Ed will / would. The odds are against it. Still, I wish him the best as he’s a great player.

Everyone loves Ed’s play on the field.

And he’s counting 7.2 mil against the Cap. And the Ravens need cap space. So why aren’t we extending him?

Because with Ed, we don’t know that he’ll play out his deal, and that makes extending him problematic.

If you make that 7.2 mil a bonus over 4 years, the problem is Ed’s behavior makes you think he’d be willing to take the money and run. And if he retires or needs to be cut, you’re just dealing with a reacceleration of the bonus into the current cap year.

So basically, Ed’s behavior is making it IMPOSSIBLE for the Ravens to reasonably extend him. Teams extend contracts to

1) Manage the cap and/or get cap room
2) keep the player multiple years

And with Ed you’re not sure extending him gives you any of those 2

Reed may be better off taking the 7.2 million, because he isn’t getting younger and healthier. The Ravens see through all this. He wants a multi-year deal, knowing he’s only good for maybe 1-2 more years, so he’s trying to squeeze all the money he can out of them before he’s washed up.

Ozzie and company, on the other hand, aren’t likely to willingly pay a load of money for a guy who USED TO BE great, and one of the best in the game, but is now always hurt and misses a lot of game time. So they’ll probably not pay him anything more..Think about it, is this guy at this stage of his career, worth more than 7.2 million a season? I think it’s right where he belongs, and given his health, I wouldn’t guarantee him much beyond this season.

See, that’s the difference between Reed and other hold outs, Ed’s not holding out for more money, at least not for himself, but for all the other players. See, if he does it, then them others will see that it can be done, and then they can do it too. See.

Your telling me if he had 3 years left on his deal he would be doing this? He said many times in the interview that he’s exceeded the worth of his contract. The worst part is he’s letting nobody’s on twitter get to him, which makes me sick because why would a celebrity have an twitter account and not think that people will talk crap?? Get off twitter, call Oz like a man and make up your freaking mind.

I am not buying this the Ravens are doomed with out Reed stuff. If he wants to sit out the Ravens will find a way to work it out. They always do. This has never been the way to get a deal from the Ravens and it won’t work now.
