Andrew Luck joins Colts receivers in Miami

Andrew Luck’s contract may or may not be close to getting signed, but he’s not cooling his heels until he puts pen to paper.

Colts receiver Donnie Avery tweeted out a picture from a University of Miami weight room with Luck, Avery, Reggie Wayne and Griff Whalen (undrafted Colts receiver who played with Luck at Stanford) all looking like they’d just gone through a serious workout. There’s no word on just what kind of work the group is up to down in Miami, but any time together should raise comfort levels between Luck and his receivers as they enter their first training camp together.

They didn’t get much time together in the spring because Stanford’s school year ran past everything other than the mandatory minicamp in June. Except for the rookie minicamp, NFL rules prohibit players from joining teams until school is out.

Luck talked a lot about getting together to work with Wayne after he was drafted in April and it looked for a brief moment that Colts owner Jim Irsay’s plane would be used to shuttle the players to joint workouts. That arrangement didn’t fly with the league, although it seems everyone figured out a way to make it happen even without the proceeds from Luck’s deal available for plane tickets.
