Dolphin Nation must be tortured. They rejected Brees for Culpepper and have had struggles at QB ever since Marino lost his worth. Now they draft Tannehill with the 1.08. Oooooh, not sure that will serve them too well.

In any case, Brees has been classy and produces at a very elite level. He definitely deserves a contract commensurate with his worth to the team and the region.

Thanks for explaining the cap numbers. I hope the owner has a big wallet with guaranteed money of $40 million this year and $20 million the next 3 years, because there will plenty of other players wanting guaranteed money too.

It still makes little sense to me how $40 million in guaranteed money only cost $10.4 million towards the cap.

First off wins are a team thing and he never had a decent team untill 09.

Considering he was the only qb to ever throw for 5,000 yards or even 4,500 without a single thousand yard receiver or rusher and without Reggie bush and his top receiver Marques colston he definitely proves he is worth the money. He is only the most disrespected “Elite” quarterback ever it’s bout time he gets to be #1 in something.

And Rodgers backup tossed 6 and has 9 in 2 starts so that can be used against him also. In 2 games where brees didn’t start his backups have 1 TD, 2 ints and 310 yards. Nobody runs that team like him he’s worth every penny.

The question is did they overpay him? Brees is a darn good player and deserves to be paid handsomely, but $20mil/yr sounds too much.

One thing for sure; the other QB’s up for contract extension/negotiations are damn happy.

The thing that bothers me is the rules would be much more QB friendly (after all the NFL wants to protect their prime asset – the QB). Look for a much more pansier NFL. Sad but possibly true.

The players salaries are completely under control. Every year the owners get the first $2 Billion, then the players get 50%.

Then there’s the franchise tag. If Brees had been free to sign with any team after his contract expired be would have gotten a lot more money in the open market.
