Regardless of the amount of the guaranteed money in Drew Brees’ five-year, $100 million contract, the Saints hope to pay out every last dollar -- just like they did on his initial six-year, $60 million contract with the club.
Saints G.M. Mickey Loomis has issued a statement acknowledging that Brees deserves the very significant compensation he’ll be getting.
“What Drew has accomplished in his time with the Saints, he deserves to be the highest paid player in the league,” Loomis said. “We are excited to have this deal done and behind us and look forward to the next five years with Drew as our quaterback.”
If Brees finishes the new deal, he will have spent 11 years with the team, earning $160 million.
Brees will meet with the media on July 24, when training camp opens in Metairie, Louisiana.
