Broncos’ Elvis Dumervil arrested on felony assault charge

Elvis Dumervil AP

Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, on Saturday night in Miami.

Few details are available about what happened. KCNC in Denver reports that bond for Dumervil was set at $7,500, and the Denver Post reports that Dumervil was released from Dade County Jail last night.

The Broncos released a brief statement acknowledging the arrest.

“Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather the facts,” the statement says. “This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course.”

The 28-year-old Dumervil was born and raised in Miami and spends most of his offseasons there. He is coming off a strong 2011 season in which he bounced back from missing all of 2010 and recorded 9.5 sacks.

I don’t even know what to say. If someone gave me millions of dollars and told me to stay out of trouble, I’m pretty sure I could do it.

  7. patriots123456 says: Jul 15, 2012 4:00 PM

So there really was an Elvis sighting.

  8. objectivenflfan says: Jul 15, 2012 4:00 PM

Broncos fan here and this doesn’t surprise me. The arrest that is. I’m surprised it was Doom.

Sad because it feels like every day you hear about another NFL player doing something stupid OR putting themselves in a situation where something stupid can happen.

I won’t get on my jump to conclusions mat yet but either way it’s a serious matter and probably could’ve been avoided.

    Pooflingingmonkey,

Every time somebody gets in trouble, 31 of the 32 fan bases will always assume theyre guilty as accused.

Oh, and expect a lot of “stay classy” comments.

Or how drew brees needs an explanation.

    Or how tiki is flabbergasted.

  17. lionsownyou says: Jul 15, 2012 4:06 PM

I know he never played for the Lions but I’m shocked you didn’t photoshop a picture of him in a Lions jersey in an attempt to further disparage the team.

  18. dawsonleery says: Jul 15, 2012 4:06 PM

I’m not solid on the Broncos. The team isn’t very talent… On either side of the ball to be honest. I understand Manning is a great QB but he’s 36 with some serious neck problems. They will be rebuilding in two years… With a new coaching staff.

  19. eaglesfootballfan says: Jul 15, 2012 4:06 PM

What was Elvis thinking. Shame on you

  20. eyeh8goodell says: Jul 15, 2012 4:07 PM

Yeah that Goodell has really cleaned up the league. Of course his media sycophants will continue to perpetuate that image.

Aggravated assault with a firearm (a FELONY), yet only $7,500 bail?

  22. coltsluckdynasty says: Jul 15, 2012 4:13 PM

Time to reset the days without an arrest counter! I it ever makes it to double digits again, I might be shocked!!

  23. kodakinvegas says: Jul 15, 2012 4:15 PM

Welcome to “Time Out” idiot. Assault/Weapon, Goodell will have a fit! Now go to your room till Daddy gets home. (Roger that is)

  24. jswheeler says: Jul 15, 2012 4:15 PM

Time to reset the arrest ticker.
    Days without arrest 0.

Aggravated assault with a firearm (a FELONY), yet only $7,500 bail?

I thought they set bail higher in Fla for peeps with high financial bankrolls?

  26. cameran0804 says: Jul 15, 2012 4:20 PM

@raiders88 funny with the peterson comparison. Elvis wipping out a GUN & Adrian getting wrongfully arrested!!

  28. bootsers says: Jul 15, 2012 4:34 PM

Wonder when contracts start including language restricting off season vacations to Miami and Houston.

  29. objectivenflfan says: Jul 15, 2012 4:34 PM

I love how everybody is bringing up the Denver Bronco’s upcoming season and how expectations won’t be met because of Manning. Why, because you’re mad he didn’t go to “your” team?

How many people thought the 49er’s and Bengals would be in the playoffs last year? Look at their players who became “players”.

The Broncos have plenty of talent. I don’t even need to list players. Stop focusing on #18’s age, injury, etc. because it’s an invalid argument. All hype. Let’s be logical and see what happens when the season starts before discounting their chances because of your own bias.

  30. robert831 says: Jul 15, 2012 4:43 PM

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Peyton Manning should have picked the 49ers if he wants to win. The Broncos are going to suck on defense this year with all the suspensions.

  31. notdemfalcons says: Jul 15, 2012 4:45 PM

Is it just me or are Dolphins players the only ones who can actually stay out of trouble in Miami?

  32. mactimo says: Jul 15, 2012 5:07 PM

Ahahahaha. Bail set at $7,500???? So he gets out for 10% or $750??? He prob had that in his pocket! Every time an athlete talks about how the cops or the judges are unfair to athletes and targets them just repost this story. The rest of us would still be in the slammer!

  33. touchdowncolston says: Jul 15, 2012 5:07 PM

Looks like he deserves a year off. 16 games is about fair.

  34. deathtoromo says: Jul 15, 2012 5:16 PM

With the murder of Sean Taylor and many other incidents in the Miami area, makes you wonder what kind of dump Miami is. Its glorified in the media but anyone that’s ever been there knows what a dump it is. Mental note to pro atheletes, stay away from Miami!

  35. broncosnative says: Jul 15, 2012 5:33 PM

Great, this is gonna leave a scar on the defense. So close for the season to start and now you have one of your best defensive player in trouble. Theres no doubt he will face suspension so the broncos should prepare as if dume wont be around. Very dissapointed that key players can’t stay out of trouble, what looked like a promising season may have been put in jeopardy, let’s hope miller can stay healthy and have a great year.

  36. cowboyscanada says: Jul 15, 2012 5:40 PM

What a shocker, another player arrested for something stupid. Lets face it, a lot of these guys are not geniuses. Most have degrees in football/basket weaving.

  37. raideryan88 says: Jul 15, 2012 7:11 PM

    What is his wonderlic score?

  38. robgilman says: Jul 15, 2012 7:46 PM

Dj Williams already facing possibly more than a 6 games and now this. The “we have a really strong defense, all we needed was a quarterback” argument is getting weaker. Denver better hope Peyton can stay healthy

  39. jnova80 says: Jul 15, 2012 8:32 PM

When was the last time the “Days Without An Arrest” counter made it to 3?

  40. commonsensedude says: Jul 15, 2012 9:00 PM

“Aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony” … Wow. I didn’t even know that was illegal in Florida.

    ____________

manning was heard to say that he’d never consider the 49ers because their coach is a giddy punch-you-from-behind little girl.

  42. raideryan88 says: Jul 15, 2012 9:52 PM

As a raiders fan, our teams need some of mommas good ol fashioned butt whoopins. our games used to be the best games to watch straight intensity, its starting to get too nice out there on the field

  43. lostsok says: Jul 15, 2012 10:24 PM

He should have stood his ground.

  44. tombrookshire says: Jul 15, 2012 11:14 PM

Let’s put it this way, this would be a very serious situation if the culprit were me or you, but because he’s an NFL player, in other words, an untouchable, it become a laugher and certainly nothing that could possibly interfere with the Broncos operations or their season.

  45. nflhof says: Jul 16, 2012 1:27 AM

Is Elvis trying to get traded to the Raiders?
