Panthers come in 17th in PFT Preseason Power Rankings

Cam Newton AP

It’s hard to believe it was just two seasons ago when Jimmy Clausen and Brian St. Pierre were starting games at quarterback and John Fox was lame-ducking through an awful 2-14 season for the Carolina Panthers.

Now, they have a quarterback, and a coach who wants to be there, and they’re going places.

The Panthers posted a four-game improvement to 6-10 last year, and could be close to contending for a playoff spot now.

But there’s also a new energy in Charlotte that’s been missing for some time, thanks to quarterback Cam Newton.

Take a look at our full preview here, and tell us if you think we’ve overrated or undervalued them going into this season.

Cam proved all the naysayers wrong last year. This year he won’t be able to sneak up on anyone.

Just right. The offense can get it done, if the defense can just climb their way to average This team will make post-season.

My money is on Cam coming back down to earth this year. I see an injury plagued 2013, too.
