Titans hire a former GM as regional scout

images

Regional scouts are often young guys on the rise. The Titans just hired a guy moving the other direction.

Former Seahawks General Manager and Bears director of player personnel Tim Ruskell was hired by the Titans as a scout. He’ll cover the South for Tennessee, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean.

Ruskell worked with Titans GM Ruston Webster as well as COO Mike Reinfeldt in the past, so it’s as simple as familiarity. But it’s rare for a guy who once pulled all the switches to occupy a regional scout job.

Ruskell, who got his NFL start under Rich McKay in Tampa Bay, was last in Chicago, and was interim GM there after Jerry Angelo was fired.

In what illustrates the circuitous nature of the personnel world, he was let go in Chicago when the Bears hired Phil Emery as GM to replace Angelo. In 2004, Ruskell hired Emery to head up college scouting for the Falcons, hiring Emery away from the Bears.

Ruskell has more than 20 years experience in the NFL.
