Panthers DT Andre Neblett suspended four games

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is tackled by Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Andre Neblett during their NFL football game in Charlotte Reuters

The Panthers have announced that defensive tackle Andre Neblett has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

Neblett, a former undrafted rookie from Temple, has played 19 games with five starts for the Panthers.

He’s eligible to participate in all offseason practices and preseason games, but will miss the first four regular season games. He’s eligible to return on October 1.

On any other team, missing a player of Neblett’s stature wouldn’t be much of an issue. But the Panthers are extremely thin at defensive tackle, making any loss a significant one.

This guy has been our best defensive tackle over the last few years, even though the coaching staff won’t start him.

Whatever he was taking, didn’t help. The Panthers have been absolutely cursed @ DT since Kris Jenkins left.

This is a big loss for us as we now have to depend on Ron Edwards, Terrell McClain and Sione Fua, who all are coming off season ending injuries last season. Hopefully those guys can stay healthy and hold down the fort until Neblett comes back.

    Time to re-sign Jason Shirley.

That really sucks, you could argue that Neblett played the best @ DT last year.

We should pick up tommie harris and maybe even albert haynesworth for cheap. We have fragile injury prone undersized DTs on our line.
