It was the NFLPA which disbanded the designated driver program not the NFL. Can’t wait to hear the union complain about Goodell’s supposed abuse of power after he suspends one of these guys.

Why should players be any different than stock brokers, store clerks or bartenders. You screw up and the law takes care of it and you go back to work.

In the case of bankers and stock brokers maybe the law doesn’t apply but the rest of us don’t have these kinds of penalties attached by our employers. These punishments don’t seem to be having any effect other than enriching the league offices.

Agreed !..Now, why oh why do all these idiots(and im a Ram fan) go out driving drunk. All these young fools have enough $ to have a kiss butt type of friend or hire urself a driver if you plan on getting high or drunk. Also, i beleive that if it wasnt for our ignorant society, most players would smoke weed( god its so harmless) instead of getting “high” on alcohol and would not put the public in danger. All smart people know that alcohol is by far worse than alcohol. But since the NFL drug tests, most players have that rationale to drink because its legal….oh when will people get it together?

Remember Ray Lewis’s prediction last year that players were going to lose it during the lockout? Well what he foresaw happened one season later. Without the structure and discipline of training camp environment way too many of these players have little to positively occupy their time.

As a whole, there are less arrests for DWI in the NFL than the public at large. It just seems like the NFL has more because it makes the news. Which welder got a DWI in Des Moines last night? No one knows, no one cares. I haven’t had a drink in 18 years, but I prob could have gotten between 3-5K DWI’s in my life. Never had a crash or got a ticket. Times were different then. Most of you guys carping have driven drunk, or your brother, dad, sister, son, etc has. Judge not so harshly lest ye come under the same punishment. These guys get in a lot more trouble than the average Joe as it is.

Does the CBA prevent teams from incorporating language regarding arrests into contracts? If players were to lose future bonuses or have to repay past bonuses in the event of an arrest, they would be more responsible.

This getting sickening!! It is only a matter of time before a player kills a person from driving drunk. I still remember the Browns player that killed that kid when he lost control of his car. The NFL should fine these guys $1 million every time they get a DUI. That would stop all of this foolishness.
