Romo has Dez Bryant’s back

It could probably be argued that the tumultuous start to Cowboys third-year receiver Dez Bryant’s NFL career should have been predictable, considering his track record coming out of Oklahoma State. The extent of Bryant’s off-field issues reached a new low on Monday when he was arrested for allegedly domestically assaulting his own mother.

But Bryant maintains supporters in the Cowboys’ locker room, and they begin with quarterback Tony Romo.

“The one thing I know is that Dez knows I have his back,” Romo told ESPN’s Ed Werder in a Friday interview. “Dez knows I’ll be there for him. Dez knows that I’m going to stick up for him.”

In spite of the arrest, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently indicated that he believes the organization’s best option is to throw its support behind Bryant and commit to him, rather than turn its back on the 23-year-old receiver when he needs his team the most. After all, Bryant worked his tail off this offseason.

Romo is on board with Jones’ approach, and suggested that Bryant deserves due process before guilt is presumed in regard to the arrest.

“None of us are directly involved in what’s going on with his life,” Romo explained. “So everyone, the speculation, the articles and things that are written are just people that are guessing. And they’re going to have their opinions based on it, but no one knows exactly the way Dez grew up, the way that things have shaped his life and his difficulties.

“… Friends and your team don’t leave you during those moments. They come back and they tell you that we’re here for you. Our football team is a close-knit team, and these moments should show that.”

They are supporting him, he is lucky that he is not a backup or kicker because he would be gone.

I’m very interested to hear what things shaped a “man” who hits his mother… I’m all ears for THAT defense…

Just another cowboy without the comon sense to do the right thing. How can you justify sticking up for a loser who raises a hand to his own mother…?

Dez Bryant Assaulted his mother a true leader would have said Dez needs to get help he can not continue to let his anger get the best of him regardless of the situation.

I will support my teammate once he has completed all that he needs to do to become a better person on and off the field.

Stick up for him and this were the ones jumping to conclusions when we heard a frantic 911 call that explains what happened from his mother.

Considering Dez is 24 and his mom is a 37 year old crackhead who spent 18 months in prison for felony drug charges and his dad is who knows where, I would cut Dez a little slack. He had had it rough and now it’s one big messed up family with money and they don’t know how to handle it.

I love all the dez bashing as if anyone here has a clue. It’s kind of funny how the night it happened when the police showed up there was no evidence his crackhead mother was roughed up so they didn’t see fit to arrest him. Then she claims he was hitting her in the hands and wrist lol sounds as if the crack head was in attack mode and he was grabbing her hands and wrists. But the ignorant masses who hate on people who aren’t like them will read half of what’s written and cast judgement because of jealousy. It’s only claimed he smacked her with his hat.

Who cares what his situation is at no point he lay a finger on his mother. Unbelievable that because you’re a fan you want to minimize this cowards actions.

In a way, what do you expect a QB to say about his #1 wide receiver?

While I can appreciate a QB who doesn’t toss a teammate under the bus, the fact is if Dez keeps going down this path, he will be out of the NFL sooner than later. And a true friend and leader will tell him that he better get his act together quickly.

One player can’t be bigger than what is best for the whole team.
