The Lions showed some real guts in releasing a guy who plays in one of their weakest positions personnel-wise. Flashing a gun and pointing it at people is immature and irresponsible, especially in the wake of the Colorado Theater shooting. It may be painful but it had to be done. Good on you, Lions.

This HURTS Detroit as well as Berry cause they already got a weak secondary an now its weaker an the Lions is STILL looking at 5 other players that will be suspended this season … Playoffs.. Thats a joke

Its plain wrong IMO that guys like Berry; (and countless others); can act like jerks, get cut; and then just move right along to their next multi million $ deal with another club; as if nothing happened.

Bans for guys like Berry ought to be NFL wide. Time for Roger to bring the hammer down and kick them out of the league.

Hard lessons need to be taught and learned. I for one am fed up about reading about guys like Berry.

LOL, Not only do the Lions tolerate this behavior, THey will keep you on the team depending on how good you are. They are still as sad and pathetic as when they did not have a winning record. Thanks for the comedy relief.

The Lions needed to do SOMETHING. I think this will get the attention of the other players. Berry might get up picked up by another team that isn’t frightened by a combination of drinking and gun-waving, but his capacity with that team will be reduced.

Lower pay and only a one year contract. If I were a GM I think I’d try to avoid the guy…

In all honesty, the Lions should have taken a stand before THIS transgression. It shouldn’t take 7 arrests (3 players with two arrests this offseason including Aaron Berry) for an organization to do SOMEthing.

It’s almost a mixed message the team is sending. We will talk you to death if you’re an extremely valuable player or have only one or two arrests…but only up until after three players accumulate two arrests each.

I wonder if Suh got two arrests, would he get cut?

I agree that the lions did the right thing. But as far as a detterrent, this may do nothing. Bigger name players will still think that Berry was a nobody and it wouldn’t happen to them.

Zero tolerance is on it’s way to the NFL for all crimes.

I think driving drunk or drug impaired is as bad as waving a gun around.

But the drunk people are generally relatively decent people. Gun wavers have issues. Therein lies the difference, even if both situations have horrible consequences and are completely irresponsible and deadly.

Point being, it is A LOT easier releasing the man with the gun.

Well top marks to the Lions. So often if a player gets into trouble and is a starter they never get cut and get a slap on the wrist from their own team. If a backup gets into trouble they seem to be gone instantly.

Well done Lions, hope this guy doesnt get picked up, it’ll then serve as a lesson to the rest of the players, get into trouble and its the CFL for you !

Playin2x if the Lions were to cut a 2nd and 1st round pick for Dui’s I promise you another team would pick them up. No team is gonna cut a 1st and 2nd round draft pick having hardly seen them on the field over the offenses these two committed. Now if they didn’t “Get it” this offseason then the team has to do what it has to do.

hey the lions finally found someone they could afford to make a ‘statement’ with…………..until an NFL team cuts a good to great player because of off field issues – and the rest of the NFL blackballs said player until they get their act together………these types of things will never be more than an excuse to make a roster decision that would probably be made anyway later in the summer……
You mean like you guys trading Brandon Marshall?The Lions did what they needed to do, and I haven’t seen ANY other team do that this offseason?
