Texans sign third-round pick DeVier Posey

It won’t be long before there are no unsigned draft picks in sight.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans moved us a little bit closer to that magic moment by signing wide receiver DeVier Posey to a four-year contract. That leaves Posey’s fellow third-round pick, guard Brandon Brooks, as the only member of the Texans draft class without a contract.

Posey was suspended for all but three games of his senior year at Ohio State, a layoff that might have affected him during spring practices with the Texans. Gary Kubiak singled out Posey for a lot of hollering during the team’s workouts and said that he needs to be in better condition to earn time with the offense.

The good news is that there’s time to be earned. The Texans don’t have a third receiver right now, so Posey will have a chance to play his way into the picture if he can show the team more than Lestar Jean and fourth-round pick Keshawn Martin. If none of the rookies step up, the Texans will likely have to look outside the organization for someone to fill that role this season.
