The Cowboys were willing to let punter Mat McBriar walk into free agency.

But they’re going to let him slide back in for a workout today, to see if they want to bring him back.

According to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, McBriar will work out today.

He was part of a four-punter tryout for the Eagles Monday, and is trying to come back from surgery to remove a cyst in his knee that bothered him last year.

McBriar has punted for the Cowboys since 2004, and made a pair of Pro Bowls, so they know what he’s capable of when well. After he went on IR last year, he was replaced by Chris Jones, and Jones and Delbert Alvarado are on the roster at the moment.
