Like father, like son.
The Packers have hired Ed Policy to serve as V.P. and general counsel. The team announced the move on Tuesday.
It’s the exact same title his father, Carmen Policy, received with the 49ers in 1983.
“We are excited to have Ed Policy become a member of the Green Bay Packers,” team president Mark Murphy said. “The NFL is an increasingly complex business with many legal aspects, and Ed’s impressive skills and diverse experience will be very valuable to the Packers. He’s a great addition to our senior staff and will allow us to continue to build upon our success.”
“I very much appreciate the opportunity to join the Green Bay Packers, a hallowed organization with a great history and tradition,” Policy said. “The NFL has been an exciting and prominent part of my life and I have always recognized that the Packers represent the very essence of why the NFL is America’s passion. I’m eager to work with the progressive leadership of the franchise and contribute to the exciting plans and successes that are in the future. My family and I are looking forward to joining the Green Bay community.”
Policy, 41, spent eight years with the Arena Football League, eventually serving as acting Commissioner during the indoor league’s bankruptcy-driven hiatus in 2009.
He replaces Jason Wied, who resigned earlier this year after a two-month leave of absence.
If Ed Policy follows in his father’s footsteps, he’ll eventually get bigger titles, in Green Bay or elsewhere. Carmen Policy became CEO of the 49ers, and later served as president and CEO of the reincarnated Browns, which returned to the league in 1999 after the original Browns moved to Baltimore.
