Report: Eagles interested in Jeremy Shockey

Getty Images

Citing a league source, Tim McManus of the newly-formed Birds 24/7 Philadelphia Eagles blog reports that the team is “showing interest” in free agent tight end Jeremy Shockey.

The Eagles seem intent on adding a veteran tight end, seeing as they’re in pursuit of Visanthe Shiancoe, as well.

Like Shiancoe, Shockey is 32 years old and most likely nearing the end of the line in the NFL. He can still catch and block, however, and makes sense as a No. 2 tight end, backing up Brent Celek.

Working opposite Greg Olsen in Carolina last year, Shockey caught 37 passes for 455 yards and four touchdowns.

Yeah, that clown would fit right in on the Drean Team Dynasty.

I just want to take this opportunity to call out all the people who would rip the Skins when they used to buy super bowls by stocking their roster with re-treads… something the iggles have been trying to do recently

isnt this the guy who ratted about the saints? and he played for the giants and was a prick and just seems like a bad idea. just sign the shiancman

Looks like they’re building another “dream team!!”

Jeremy Shockey and DeSean Jackson on the same team?

Are the Eagles going to bring a cotton candy machine and seal with a beach ball to the sidelline as well?

Shockey was a model citizen in Carolina last year, not to mention, a great teammate. I, like many other Panther fans, wish we had the cap space to bring him back for another season. He was very helpful to Cam last year.

I’d be shocked if they got him.

Shockley brings leadership, he has 2 Super Bowl Championships to his name.

He’s very similar the Celek with his style of play. But I would take Shiancoe because he’s more familiar with the west coast offense.

    He’s a train wreck.

We all know about Shockey’s history. For what it’s worth, he didn’t cause a stir while in Carolina. I’m not saying that wouldn’t happen in Philly, but if you take away the behavioral issues, he’s a quiality backup to have. Best of luck.

    Shockey is terrible..
the best clip ever is him staring at the camera & expecting his kicker to make thegame winning field goal..

shockey is to football, what cancer is to testicles.

Uh oh this would just put the icing on the dynasty cake… us cowboys fans are shaking in our boots

Jeremy Shockey had a great year last year and kept his mouth shut. I, like many other Panther fans, am happy to see him go however. He is a disruptive presence in any locker room and it was only a matter of time before he caused a problem. Panthers have something like 8 million in cap space right now, if we wanted Shockey we could have him. Guys like that are no good for the promising young players on the team. Grateful for what he did for us, but we will be better without him.

They’re thinking about signing a back up tight end. I don’t see what part of this is supposed to be some kind of big splash.

If Shockey has something left, he’s a great addition. Was a good player with the Saints and did a fine job for the Panthers. But I think he’s only good for 4-5 games at most next year.

One there wasn’t a salary cap back then, Two are you really ripping the Eagles for properly managing the cap? I guess your use to your owner not even worrying about cap and buying over the hill players. Enough out of you troll.

The giants are the only team that actually got any production out of this guy. Go ahead eagles add him haha

Shockey has skills. He was a great team mate on the Saints and behaved himself. Most of the people who hate him are bitter New York Giant fans…

  20. discosucs2005 says: Jul 24, 2012 10:18 AM

Shiancoe would fit into that offense perfectly, but I’m kind of a believer in Shockey. Like someone already said, he’s similar in play to Celek and he seemed to fill his role well in Carolina last year. Idk the Eagles cap situation or how often they run two TE sets but maybe both would be their best option. It’s not like either of them are at a stage in their career where they are going to harp on about playing time or targets.

remember old school rookie year Shockey.. he had that long flow and was dominant, running over DBs like nothing

  22. bobbyhoying says: Jul 24, 2012 11:04 AM

I have to wonder if they want a good blocking tight end to help make up for Peters’ injury and to help keep Vick injury free.

  23. eaglestateofmind415 says: Jul 24, 2012 11:11 AM

If everything goes by smoove, Shockey won’t have to worry about Demeco laying him out this year!

  24. rajbais says: Jul 24, 2012 11:12 AM

Get him! More pass catchers means that Mike Vick can get rid of the ball quicker.

Plus, if you have a lot of guys demanding the ball he will not abuse his own body when running.

Great! My hometown team gives me yet another reason to not like them. The roster was once filled with classy people (didn’t win a Super Bowl, I get it) such as Westbrook, McNabb, Dawkins, Akers,… Now filling up fast with less that decent people (though nice to see Samuel gone)…. The talk about Shockey, this year and Burress last year, Vince Young last year,…. Makes me believe the Eagles have “sold out”. Good-bye character. Hello criminals. Though it could be a great season for them this year, I hope the egos tear apart the locker room again this year. Clearly, they couldn’t handle adversity last year.
