Obama wants Vick to slide

Barack Obama AP

As football season approaches, a pair of high-profile Americans are justifiably worrying about their jobs.  If Eagles quarterback Mike Vick can’t stay healthy and/or effective, he may not be the Eagles quarterback in 2013.  And if President Barack Obama can’t draw more votes than Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama will become Ordinary Citizen Barack Obama in 2013.

Though it’s unknown whether Vick will have any advice for Obama as he tries to remain the Commander-in-Chief, Obama has some words of wisdom for Vick.

Slide.

That’s what Obama told Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha at a Monday fundraiser in Oakland.

He told me to tell Vick to slide.  I promise,” Asomugha said upon arriving at training camp, via Andy Schwartz of CSNPhilly.com.  “We talked about football for about three or four minutes.  The one thing that stuck out — tell Vick to slide.”

Vick doesn’t slide.  He refuses to slide.  He apparently can’t slide.

He should slide.  Vick has promised to protect himself this year, and protecting himself includes knowing when, while running away from the sidelines, to jump, thrust his feet forward, and hit the ground with his shins then his thighs and just sssssslide.

Of course, if Obama spends too much time worrying about Vick, Obama may slide, in a very different way.

UPDATE 7:40 p.m. ET:  Apparently, Vick will be heeding Obama’s directive.

Where does the Philly connection come from? Shouldn’t he be paying more attention to his current town’s quarterback, Robert Griffin, or at least his hometown team’s quarterback, Jay Cutler?

Now when Vick scrambles, Barry can tell him “You didn’t get that first down, somebody else made it happen.”

He is the Commander in Chief. If he tells you to do something, follow orders! Get down Vick! I learned to slide when I was six years old!

Sounds like Obama would be a better QB coach than president.

Why don’t we give Obama one of the commish jobs instead and let someone else who is more interested in the actual job of president and getting people back to work instead of worrying more about quarterbacks sliding or his NCAA basketball pools or his golfswing!!

Basically, look at what I’ve said before, you can check my track record on this. I never said you have to slide. The American people though may like you to slide and thats what really matters here.”

Obama is wrong on how to fix the economy (well technically I guess if you don’t have the first clue on how to fix the economy you can’t be wrong, just completely clueless, let’s “inject” the economy with food stamp money, that will fuel a recovery! I mean wow is Obama, a career politician, dumb) and he is also wrong about this, what makes Vick great (a 60% carrer win percentage) is his aggressive style of play, he can’t be thinking about sliding he needs to be thinking how to take his team into the end zone.

Obama doesn’t need to tell Vick to slide – all he has to do is pressure key leaders in the NFL to quit, like he did in the banking, auto, and oil industries, or publicly chastise people who use the NFL product like he did the business aviation industry – the entire NFL will slide just like the economy

Defenses would love for Vick to submit more often and slide. Last season in about the same amount of games as 2010, he ran 24 times less often, scored 8 fewer rushing TDs, threw 3 fewer TDs, threw 8 more ints, and won fewer games.

Michael Vick got hurt last year by sitting in the pocket contrary to popular belief.

Against Atlanta he suffered a freak injury that looked really bad his head got pinned backwards and the only thing that could have prevented it is if he grew 4 inches.

He also got injured against the Cardinals on the first series of the game when one of the defenders for Arizona drilled him in the ribs before he had a chance to brace himself.

Vick is certainly injury prone he might be six feet tall and his build is very slender but the tired old “Vick needs to slide more” explanation for his injuries isn’t accurate anymore.

    ===============================

Exactly. Stick to running the country! What Vick really needs to do is learn to throw the ball away.

Also love how many people slam Obama for daring to think about something besides being president for a few minutes. You’re offering a political opinion, not a logical one. If your guy did it, you’d find it charming. It reminds me of sports fans who bitch about players who didn’t win a championship the previous year making a commercial or taking a vacation.

Politics 101 – when you find that you are way over your head and too incompetent to the job you promised you knew how to do, the answer is to tell others how to do their job and try to take the focus away from you. Glad to show you kept the notes others took for you while you stayed away from class to hang out with your communist mentors. And Barry, tell us how you were employed for years at a Chicago law firm, got paid an attorney’s salary, and was assigned to work as a “Community Organizer?”

A joke that Obama made to a player (out of earshot from reporters) has the right-wingers in a tizzy. It’s another Obama conspiracy!

Making a joke about Vick, away from reporters, was clearly an Obama ploy to get the media talking about football instead the important stuff like national security and the hunt for Osama bin Laden! (oops – Obama killed bin Laden!)

Maybe it was an evil ploy to keep the media from talking about the auto companies opening new plants and paying back their loans sooner than expected?

But seriously folks … I’m glad to see that people who hold up Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman as intellectual giants are unafraid of what other’s think of their reasoning skills.

In order for a player to join the NFL, he would have to show a birth certificate (not saying Obama doesn’t have one, but he sure beat around it for a while)

A player would have to show his school records to the NFL, and team suitors….

Unlike our PRESIDENT…he continues to evade showing his school records…

I’m no Vick fan, but didn’t he basically come from a rough upbringing, went to college (he was enrolled in a college anyway, I’ll leave it at that), and became a millionaire in the NFL. That’s the American dream, or part of it, correct? And Vick is rich, so according the Obama far left-wing radical socialists, that makes him evil.

Maybe it’s just successful business owners and job creators Obama and his radical socialist followers hate…..I guess it’s ok if you’re a rich athlete, because Obama’s a fan.

I could care less if a politician or president is “cool” like Obama, and loves sports and hangs out with has-been celebrities. I just want our president to strengthen the economy, and keep Americans working. I don’t want or need handouts from the government, like the entitlement class who we hard working taxpayers support under socialists like Obama. Don’t get me wrong…..too many have fallen on hard times in America, it’s the ones who don’t want to work and look for handouts from we taxpayers, and are enabled by socialist leaders like Obama that I can’t stand.

How did all these comments get so political here? Anyway, I love them….keep them coming!!

Obama plays golf, Bush played golf, Clinton played the sax, Bush played golf, Reagan spent an eighth of his presidency at his vacation home in Santa Barber.

Just because an article has the word “Obama” in it doesn’t mean that this football site suddenly became your soap box to voice all the political views your kids started ignoring years ago.
