As football season approaches, a pair of high-profile Americans are justifiably worrying about their jobs. If Eagles quarterback Mike Vick can’t stay healthy and/or effective, he may not be the Eagles quarterback in 2013. And if President Barack Obama can’t draw more votes than Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama will become Ordinary Citizen Barack Obama in 2013.
Though it’s unknown whether Vick will have any advice for Obama as he tries to remain the Commander-in-Chief, Obama has some words of wisdom for Vick.
That’s what Obama told Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha at a Monday fundraiser in Oakland.
“He told me to tell Vick to slide. I promise,” Asomugha said upon arriving at training camp, via Andy Schwartz of CSNPhilly.com. “We talked about football for about three or four minutes. The one thing that stuck out — tell Vick to slide.”
Vick doesn’t slide. He refuses to slide. He apparently can’t slide.
He should slide. Vick has promised to protect himself this year, and protecting himself includes knowing when, while running away from the sidelines, to jump, thrust his feet forward, and hit the ground with his shins then his thighs and just sssssslide.
Of course, if Obama spends too much time worrying about Vick, Obama may slide, in a very different way.
UPDATE 7:40 p.m. ET: Apparently, Vick will be heeding Obama’s directive.
