Receiver Roy Williams gets tryout with Texans

AP

Free agent receiver Roy Williams is finally drawing some interest.

Williams is in Houston for a tryout with the Texans on Thursday, his agent Ben Dogra told the Star-Telegram.

Williams was one of several well-known free agent receivers who found it hard to find any suitors this offseason. Others on that list include Braylon Edwards, Plaxico Burress and Terrell Owens.

But now Williams will get an opportunity to prove he can still play with the Texans, where he’d have a chance to be the No. 3 wide receiver behind starters Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter.

Last season Williams caught 37 passes for 507 yards and two touchdowns with the Bears. A 2004 first-round draft pick of the Lions, Williams was traded to the Cowboys in 2008 and was viewed as a disappointment in Dallas.

  1. Buying storage units and selling the contents doesn’t pay as well as the nfl… seems like a good guy, good luck Roy.

Dude, the guy who is buying storage unit is Roy Williams the former SAFETY for the Dallas D-Bags…this isn’t the same guy. But Roy Williams the WIDE RECEIVER is indeed a good dude, too bad he can’t catch the big brown thing in front of him.

  5. Back in Detroit he dissed a pizza delivery guy with a paltry tip. As penance, he delivered pizza for a day so he will always have that experience to fall back on…

  6. Kevin Walter getting some love, go Eagles!!!!!!!, Roy always seemed like a good dude, to.bad his career pretty much came to an end when he left Detroit, how often can a player say his best years were in Detroit?

  7. As a Cowboys fan, this guy with his lady gloves, made me physically sick to watch.Made more drops than they equally brutal Patrick Crayton.

  8. Braylon Edwards may be the best of the mentioned receivers finding it hard to get suitors for their talents. Braylon is still young enough but he may be a different receiver since his injury. Which is why a guy like Wes Welker and other very good receivers in the league try to get larger long term contracts. The life of a receiver in the NFL is profoundly subject to both injury and age.

  9. I would take him on the team for a minimum contract. We got 0 production out of that WR spot anyways. Just need to buy time until rookies know the system enough to get on the field.

  10. we need someone to play WR. i don’t see why they don’t talk to TO–I think he’s the best of the bunch
