APThe 49ers could be down to four No. 1 receivers.
Michael Crabtree, a first-round pick in 2009 who has yet to fulfill his potential, potentially could be out for a while with an ankle injury.
Cam Inman of BayAreaNewsGroup.com reports that Crabtree missed Saturday’s practice after injuring the ankle late in Friday’s practice.
Coach Jim Harbaugh would say only that Crabtree is “working through something.” (Maybe he swallowed a Lego.)
“He’ll be all right. He’s good,” 49ers running back Frank Gore said of Crabtree. “He’s going to be ready.”
Crabtree has yet to participate in a full training camp. He held out into the regular season as a rookie, and he has had neck and foot injuries in his other two Augusts.

Hmmm… Another camp hangnail for the prima donna without portfolio…
And cue the “Crabtree’s a diva” comments……
sad.
John Harbaugh?
& i hated Al (rip) for passing on him for DHB, sorry AL!!!
Should have given him an MRI at the Combine looking for any sign of a HEART.
Doesn’t have it.
Soft As Hell! And I remember when the critics said he was better than DHB from the Raiders.
I guess AL got the last laugh.
Is there anybody left that thinks Crabtree should have been the pick over Darrius Heyward-bey? Niether one probably should have been picked where they were but I would take DHB over Crabtree any day.
At this stage, Crabtree’s preseason injuries are so obviously hurting his career that I’m finally inclined to believe them. The scouts saw this when he was drafted; it’s what SF got. I refuse to believe any player would be that misled.
As Gomer Pyle would say, “Surprise, surprise, surprise.”
D I V A
Big surprise.
Crabtree turn into Craptree…I hope ninners let him go..
Looks like DHB, DUI and all was a better pick! Lol!!
Who could forget the Touchdown against Texas with no time left to pull of the upset? My friend bet me he’d be the bust of the draft. I think if he had a QB instead of a game manager he could be decent in the slot.
John Harbaugh… Interesting they chose the Ravens coach to ask about Crabtree.
Crabtree will miraculously recover when training camp ends. I’m a Niner fan but am sick of this diva. WRs who were stars in a gimmick spread offense in college rarely excel in the pros where you aren’t a product of a system.
man… we need to get this guy out of here.
Remember how Cris Carter laughed his butt off when the Raiders selected DHB over his buddy crabtree? Well who’s laughing now?
Not a fan of either Oakland or San Fran, but I knew from the start that Crabtree was going to be a bum and DHB was going to be alright in the NFL. I mean seriously, who was the last good player to come out of Texas Tech?
This guy will NEVER reach the potential folks thought he had coming in as a rookie. Too bad…
I don’t think this guy is brittle; I think he just doesn’t like to work. It seems he milks minor injuries for all they are worth. Maybe that isn’t the case but I wouldn’t put it past this dude.
I guess the media is so fed up with talking to Jim Harbaugh they’ve decided to talk to his brother John Harbaugh instead. : )
DHB will end up having a better career.
If Michael Crabtree had ever played with a lego he’d probably be a better human being. Something tells me that if he had ever held a lego piece it was to throw it at some other kid.
Sounds like a young Favre: not wanting to show up to camp.
What a bust! Overrated! Complete waste of a roster spot! They should dump him, and place a 2nd rounder to pry Wallace from Pitt! I’m so sick of hearing his name! He is worthless!
Welcome to the 49ers Mr. Owens.
Frank Gore MD
Crabtree is a bust both physically and mentally.
The boy who cried wolf….he really is injured right now but not badly. He’ll be back soon.
Let’s not go over the numbers again raiders fans, Crabtree still has done more in the NFL than DHB has.
