In the here and now, having Atlanta id’ed makes sense. 50 years from now, after they’ve moved the statue to the stadium that came after the stadium after the Superdome, having the opponent identified will mean nothing. The point is to honor the Saints. The fact that they are depicting an actual play loses context over time.

I always recall how funny it was when going to Atlanta for their home game against the Saints to see far more “bagheads” than Pigeon fans in the seats. That was until Senior Dog Killer was drafted by them. We may have worn bags during our good old days. But hey, at least someone actually showed up to the games. Before Vick, no one in Atlanta even pretended to care about the Falcons. Don’t sell yourselves as some of the best fans in the league. You’re not

I say this living in a city with a statue of The Fonz in its downtown, but isn’t a football statue a little lame as far as honoring the city’s resurgence following a tragedy?

Not only that, but I’m told the “Fonz” statue is featured in Travel Wisconsin commercials played throughtout the midwest. Not sure that’s going to work to attract vacationers to Milwaukee.

It’s too bad, really because it’s actually a cool place to visit. Tons of ethnically authentic bars and restaurants and lots of history – kind of like a little Chicago. But, I’m not sure a statue of the Fonzie is going to drive a ton of traffic your way…
