Titans receiver O.J. Murdock, who has been absent from training camp for what the team described as personal reasons, is reportedly in critical condition in a Florida hospital after shooting himself this morning.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that police officers discovered Orenthal James Murdock at about 8:30 a.m. in his car in front of Middleton High School, where he graduated in 2005, after he apparently attempted suicide. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital with critical injuries.
After graduating from Middleton High, Murdock played two years of college football at South Carolina and then transferred to Fort Hays State, where he played two more years.
The Titans signed Murdock as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He spent his rookie year on injured reserve with a foot injury.
UPDATE: The Tampa Police Department announced that Murdock has died.

Wow, ya know sometimes we as Fans (fanatics) get riled up and criticize players for loafing or other indiscretions that have been prevalent lately. But most of the time we don’t know the whole story or the underlying factors and or situations. Just like when we go through our own trials and tribulations, most of the time we don’t advertise our emotions to the world and we just want the pain to go away. Sometimes just a kind word from anyone can make the difference in a very desperate situation. Life or Death! Rest now young brother any and all sin is forgiven in death as Death is the ultimate payment. WE ALL pray for your family as this situation will play hard on their consciences as they try to make sense of it all.
There IS a connection between brain injury (football contact) and suicide and too many football players are taking that road. May he rest in peace.
