APAntonio Cromartie is still listed as a cornerback, and not a wide receiver. But Cromartie says that if the Jets go through with plans to give him an extensive role in the offense, he’ll be the second-best receiver on the team.
Cromartie said today on ESPN First Take that if he has to rank himself within the Jets’ receiving corps, he’d say he’s the No. 2 option on the team.
“I think I’d put myself as second,” Cromartie said. “I haven’t really played it in the past four or five years, but I can put myself as the second just with raw ability and talent going out there, I think, me separating and being a more physical guy out there on the outside.”
Santonio Holmes is the Jets’ No. 1 receiver, but Cromartie apparently thinks he’s better than the team’s other receivers, including Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill.
“Kerley is a more of a slot receiver, he’s a slot guy,” Cromartie said. “Stephen Hill is a younger guy that can get down the field. I think, for me, I can run every single route in the route tree. I’m not going to take anything away from my ability, so when you ask me that question, I’m going to say, yes, I believe I’m one of the best receivers on the football team, next to Santonio Holmes.”
Jets preseason games will be interesting to watch this year, not just to keep tabs on Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow, but to see whether Cromartie gets some opportunities on offense to back up his high opinion of himself.

You know what, sadly, he’s probably right.
And away we go.

I really wish the Jets players and coaches would have a little more confidence. Its clearly what is missing on that team.
“Santonio Holmes is the Jets’ No. 1 receiver, but Cromartie apparently thinks he’s better than the team’s other receivers, including Chaz Schilens, Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill.”
wait… who?
At least if he plays offense in practice, he wont have to jump out of the way of a rushing Tebow again
Does anything ever change with this team? Every season they open their mouths and out pops another stupid comment. Just show us you can play and shut up!
Well….there’s a pretty long list of women who say he can really deliver when it counts.
He’s also the second best parent to each of his 19 children
Its a toss up between who has the worst recieving corp, the Jets or the Browns…..and the browns are not a team you want to be placed in the same category as!
Judging by the number of kids he has, he’s quite good at penetrating a secondary.
Cromartie isn’t smart, most of us have heard him confirm that notion multiple times. So when he talks, you have to take what he says in its entirety. With this statement, he is simply saying he is the second best reciever on the team as far as his physical talents, potential and NFL game speed. I know people are going to rail on this guy, who also admitted that he hasn’t touched the position in 4 or 5 year, but he did point that out himself. If anything, its Cromartie, so nothing should suprise you anyway.
If he was as good a father as he is a wide out, he might be on to something.
Tim Tebow is the 2nd best running back on the team now do you Cromartie? I suggest you get back to work to pay that child support for the 500 kids you have!!
To borrow a line from Season 1 of Deadwood, these guys cant “walk by a cliff without jumping off of it.”
Should probably concentrate on being second best db, which is debateable at best
Jets, the gift that just keeps on giving. lol.
He has a better grasp of the route tree than he does his family tree.
Cromartie needs to be able to play both sides of the ball. He has to get paid twice to support all those kids.
LMAO, nope, don’t want no turmoil in my locker room. And to think Tebow felt blessed by God for being a part of this completely ridiculous organization.
Guess the Jets should sign Plaxico back then.
Cromartie is just another loose canon playing on the Jets. It’s sad that this team has degenerated to this degree.
Antonio, dont even talk to people it confirms their suspicions of your stupidity.
Only Cro can catch ground balls from Sanchez and Tebow. That’s why he is sooo good
I can definitely see him playing on offense…….only to see him catch a reception and run it back into the wrong end zone thinking he just got an interception lol
Go to Miami and be a WR1
The jets also talked about maybe trying Wilkerson at right tackle, Nick Mangold at Punter, Bart Scott at running back, and Mark Sanchez at back-up water boy.
It’s going to be fun watching the Jets try to score this year.
That defense better be regularly holding teams to 10 points or else the Jets will struggle to win 7 games.
It would be fun if one of the networks did a bit with the old Run DMC song “You Talk too Much” mixed in with Jets players and coaches yapping away…..
“You’re the instigator, the orator of town
You’re the worst when you converse, just a big mouth clown
You talk when you’re awake, I heard you talk when you sleep
Has anyone told you that talk is cheep?
He might be the 2nd best Linebacker and maybe their best Quaterback.
I seen the interview this morning and what else is he going to say im the 5 or 10th best on the team . And he didn’t not come out and say he was the 2nd best He was asked if he thinks he’s beter then and Skip throw out names Whould you say no that guy’s better then me NO
His ego is only exceeded in size by his…well, you know…
I’m sure that instills a lot of confidence into your WR team mates…
Can u name the other WR’s on the Jets? What about your kids u know all theirs yet?
And the jets continue to make irrelevant news in the football world..
“…with raw ability and talent going out there, I think, me separating and being a more physical guy out there on the outside.” – Does anyone else remember Cromartie jumpin gout of Shonn Greene’s way during a playoff game a few years ago?! Cromartie definitely is as soft as they come. Good luck getting him to run a route over the middle…
But can he block? You don’t hire a run-only OC, trade for a run-only qb and draft an option wr to air it out. They’re going to run the ball 50x per game and try to win 9-6.
He’s probably the 2nd best quarterback on the Jets, too!
What’s more surprising – a JET running his mouth or someone actually watching ESPN’s First Take?
All this doesn’t say much for Plaxico. When they would rather have a CB playing WR rather than him.
he should get his tackling skills and pass interference problems fixed before trying new positions.
2nd best Receiver, but can he name all of his fellow Receivers? He probably is the team’s best baby maker though, which counts for something I guess.
Hey Rex, better go check on how this is going over in the locker room so you’re not “surprised” again when players are screaming at each other on the field during a game.
Sad state of the team when your best WR is a CB and your best RB is a QB.
Jets ought to give Braylon, Plax or TO a call. Cro as your 2nd best WR means you have one guy, and Holmes will be triple covered and moaning, complaining and causing trouble. They need an RB too, not impressed with Greene.
Well, they brought in Tebow for a good example. But because the chubby coach can’t keep his own mouth shut, neither can his team. These guys are never going to do it. Too many bad eggs man, they just don’t get it.
Rex Ryan – King of talking
Cromartie – all talk, no tackle
Revis – great player, more mood swings than 15 year
old girl
Sanchez-dillusional, dresses up too much in fur and
tights
Bart Scott – Never played to his own aplomb
Santonio Holmes – Please child
Tick tock, tick tock
BTW, you may be second best as receiver Antonio, but where do you rank in remembering your own kids’ names? Yea, you remember, 9 of em.
He sure tackles like a wide receiver
This is yet another small example of way teams should not go out and sign a bunch of expensive football mercenaries. People like Santonio, Antonio, and any other Tonios out there only care about themselves.
The Jets made their bed several years ago and now they are lying in it.
Let’s see how long it takes for them to figure it out and dump these clowns.
If Cromartie is 2nd best WR then the Jets are not making the playoffs. This guy is known for Taking plays off and Avoiding contact. And U gonna give him a chance on Offense? U need WR help? Plaxico is still available.
Dang, I wish the Panthers played the Jets this year instead of next year. Talk about putting the “fun” in dysfunctional…
He is not going to be able to make a big play on Offense and then come right in and stay with say a Wes Welker or Stevie Johnson, they’ll blow his doors off. Either play Cornerback or Wide Receiver, he’ll never be able to keep up with the both.
He’s already their best tackle dodger.
In all honesty, I think he has a point. Not trolling either
The Jets just keep going. I’m a Bills fan so I love it. I hate the Pats but the fact is Rex needs to look across the sideline when he plays them and he’ll see how an NFL team is run and how a coach and his captains keep a locker room in line. It disgusts me to admire the Pats but facts are facts there is a reason they win 12 plus games every season.
Having said that I can’t wait for week 1 when the Bills smack the Jets and the circus in NY goes full throttle !!
OMG…. the selfishness, ego’s and stupidity on this team is just over the top. Rexy proclaims there will be no locker room problems this year….. yah right! Revis is already on his pedestal, Santurdio is quickly blossoming into a malignancy and now Cromoronman is dissing all the other receivers. What a bunch of clowns and fools.
Sadly for jets fans. He is right. For the rest of us I will say he does have a ridiculous ability to dodge tackles so it could work out. Again, sadly for jets fans. He proved that while playing DB haha
rex could “look across the sideline” when he plays the pats and see BRADY. he’s the best in the game and the main reason the pats win 12 games every year.
i’m glad to see the bills much improved. they should finish a solid third on the division
Who cares. You should go learn your kids names instead of trying to learn the offense
