Jerry Jones sounds confident the Cowboys will beat the Giants

Jerry Jones AP

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is feeling confident enough about his team that he’s already predicting victory over the defending Super Bowl champions.

Y’all should come to Cowboys Stadium and watch us beat the Giants’ asses,” Jones said at a fan event at the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, California.

Before the Giants go to Cowboys Stadium, the Cowboys will have to head to New Jersey and visit the Giants to start the season on September 5. That’s the game the Cowboys have to be thinking about now, and it’s a game in which the Giants are favored to kick the Cowboys’ asses. The Giants beat the Cowboys twice last season, and the Giants have a 7-2 record against the Cowboys going back to the playoffs after the 2007 season, when they got a postseason victory at Cowboys Stadium on the way to the Super Bowl.

So the Cowboys have an uphill battle if they’re going to prove their owner right. Kicking the Giants’ asses is something the Cowboys haven’t done often enough recently.

Anything to get Jerry back to that “glory hole” he spoke so lovingly of earlier in the week.

Us Cowboys are a different team this year, it’s going to be a hell of a game.

  3. bucrightoff says: Jul 31, 2012 11:20 AM

I sound confident when I say Jerry Jones’ face hasn’t been real since the mid-90’s

  4. tcostant says: Jul 31, 2012 11:21 AM

When the last time the prior year’s Super Bowl winner loss on opening night? I don’t think it happen since they move this game to a week day night.

  5. joetoronto says: Jul 31, 2012 11:22 AM

Jerrah talking the talk but unable to walk the walk.

    Surprise!

  6. ishakethatbear says: Jul 31, 2012 11:22 AM

It makes me quite happy knowing that the only similarity between the Giants GM and the Boys GM is their first name. Talking without getting results is not good for business!

  7. thatboybaked says: Jul 31, 2012 11:23 AM

As much as I dislike Jones, give me a break……….. The guy is at his own training camp event, being enthusiastic about his team. What would you expect him to say? You really think he would shout out “I hope we get stomped by the Giants on opening day!!!”

  8. pwndabeer says: Jul 31, 2012 11:24 AM

was he picking his nose during the interview?

  9. godofware says: Jul 31, 2012 11:25 AM

As a longtime Cowboys fan; Shut up and let the play on the field do the talking

Oh Jerry… Yes, the Giants are one team that we need to beat, but they are not the only team. If you are worried about that ONE game at home, then I’m kind of worried…. about you that is.

  11. heyguru1969 says: Jul 31, 2012 11:32 AM

Oh Jerry, your players love you for giving teams bulletin board material. I’m a lifelong Cowboys fan, but trying to play to the base right before going into the lions’ den is never smart. **sigh** Now the players have to try to overcome your eg0, as well as the defending Super Bowl champs. If you’re in Vegas, play the over.

  12. dlc618 says: Jul 31, 2012 11:36 AM

    Jerry,

It’s not happening dude. Nice stadium though.

  13. ceschatz says: Jul 31, 2012 11:37 AM

you people are ridiculous. what’s he supposed to say? I think we will get our asses kicked? God forbid the guy to have some confidence in his team. keep the hate up, you look pathetic.

  14. sj39 says: Jul 31, 2012 11:39 AM

No team leaders = very few wins.

  15. trseann says: Jul 31, 2012 11:43 AM

What’s he supposed to say, some might ask?

Well, there are many things he COULD have said.

As a Giants fan, I’m glad he said that. When a representative from an opposing team talks trash without having to put on pads, it always works out.

  16. bergencountyjc says: Jul 31, 2012 11:47 AM

I think the best thing about Dallas home games is watching Jerruh come down to field level in the final minutes of another loss

  17. stevebozeman says: Jul 31, 2012 11:48 AM

No different than Mara saying the Giants are the real Americas team. We’ve had to listen to the idiot Marty B cuss the Cowboys all summer and I’ve sick of his bull.

  18. buffalomook says: Jul 31, 2012 11:49 AM

Jerry Jones is an idiot. There is a reason his team only is successful when he has had a strong head coach. When Jerry is leading the charge he undermines every aspect of the team and provides extra incentive for other teams to want to kick the hell out of his team. Sadly all the best coaches he has leave town while still successful as they can’t stand his BS. Had he not driven out Jimmy Johnson that team could have gone down as one of the top dynasty’s ever. Will he ever just shut up, be humble, and let his football people do their jobs. doubtful.

  19. pixelito says: Jul 31, 2012 11:49 AM

The Giants happen to be undefeated in that stadium.

  20. antmings says: Jul 31, 2012 11:57 AM

if u ppl think bulletin board material makes any diff once the ball is kicked off…ur crzy…I’m sure nobody is thinking about what JJ said at the start of training camp in the middle of the 1st quarter of the gm…..this is nuthin more then pre gm hype

  21. bigblue5611 says: Jul 31, 2012 12:00 PM

Hey Jerry- thanks for the new stadium we’re 3-0 there and Eli’s thrown for over 1000 yards against your god awful defense…….face!

  22. 49erstim says: Jul 31, 2012 12:08 PM

“what should he have said?” NOTHING AT ALL! You have every right to be excited about your season, but he specifically called out that team in that game. Saying you’ve got a good shot at the division is ok, but he looks ridiculous when he says this garbage. Ugh. Sorry Cowboys fans. I really am!

  23. glac1 says: Jul 31, 2012 12:17 PM

and our president sounds confident saying the private sector is doing well and business owners had nothing to do with building their business…..

  24. trefkennedy says: Jul 31, 2012 12:19 PM

We gonna take our spot Team cowboys

  25. blaksteele says: Jul 31, 2012 12:19 PM

I think some wins in the playoffs are more important.

  26. thatboybaked says: Jul 31, 2012 12:22 PM

I’m not a Cowboys fan. All I’m saying is people talk, everyday. Someone chooses to quote some meaningless sentence from Jones and publish it on a football website as news in hopes to drum up some complete BS.

  27. sevensgottago says: Jul 31, 2012 12:24 PM

Sounds like Jerruh’s glory hole got clogged up!

  28. dexterismyhero says: Jul 31, 2012 12:27 PM

  29. rjg427 says: Jul 31, 2012 12:27 PM

    Jerry–
Eli has owned your team and that stadium of your’s ever since he signed his name to the locker room wall…

  30. woodson28 says: Jul 31, 2012 12:33 PM

As a longtime Cowboy fan, I find it so disheartening that our gm/owner is constantly in the news for saying idiotic things. I really wish that Stephen takes over as the public face of the franchise like…now.

  31. markpackman says: Jul 31, 2012 12:37 PM

But, if they beat the Giants, will the Giants press charges? Apparently, some of the Cowboy’s Moms don’t after they beat them.

  32. bluebongzilla says: Jul 31, 2012 12:46 PM

markpackman that’s ok, because NY and NJ prosecutors don’t seem to care when Giants players transport unregistered handguns across state lines, either.

  33. justintuckrule says: Jul 31, 2012 12:47 PM

    Smilin’ Giants’ fan here.

  34. willyalistentothis says: Jul 31, 2012 12:55 PM

Only if Tony Romo was as confident……

The last time these two teams crossed each other in the playoffs Jones placed NFC Championship tickets in each of his players’ lockers. We all know how that ended.

Rex Ryan and Jerry Jones bring so much joy to Giants fans. Who is the bigger (belt size aside) idiot?

I think you will have to wait the same long time as the Raiders fans had to.

  36. tdk24 says: Jul 31, 2012 1:04 PM

Have they won any home games in that new stadium yet?

  37. nfl fan says: Jul 31, 2012 1:05 PM

Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. The real question Jerry is why didn’t they beat the giants when it mattered most last season.

Remember…the giants down 12 with 3:42 to go in your stadium. Need I remind you?

  38. dvdman123 says: Jul 31, 2012 1:30 PM

As much as I dislike Jerry Jones he’s not crazy saying that. Yeah I know the Giants won the Super Bowl last season but lets be honest it wouldn’t shock many to see the Cowboys beat them in NJ on Thurs. night. The teams are evenly matched IMO.

  39. electionconfidential says: Jul 31, 2012 1:40 PM

If Jerry wants to impress people maybe he should fake being humble for a day. It’s like listening to Wile E. Coyote explain to the press why he is certain to catch the Roadrunner today….

  40. igotgamenj says: Jul 31, 2012 2:00 PM

Jerry the Giants are 3-0 at your place

  41. dangle13x says: Jul 31, 2012 2:48 PM

I am by no stretch of the imagination a NYG fan, but Jerry Jones is a pathetic knob. I hope the Giant’s run all over that joke of a team again. Jerry’s getting senile in his horrifying looking old age.

And what’s ridiculous is you backing up your Cowboy head honcho with his nonsense. What’s ridiculous is he saying “kicking the SB champs asses” when he’s won NOTHING the last few years. Yes, I am keeping the hate, I have nothing but hate for people like Jerrah and Cowboy nation who love to talk but can never seem to walk!!!

  43. voxnovo says: Jul 31, 2012 4:37 PM

So far as one can tell from Mr. Smith’s post, Jerry Jones gave no indication of when this Cowboy victory over the Giants will occur — in the 2012 season, some other year during Jones’s lifetime, or perhaps not until some future millenium.

If Jones was being deliberately circumspect on that score, one almost has to applaud him for that.

  44. bigbluefan1 says: Jul 31, 2012 6:08 PM

Damn I needed a good laugh and Jerry gave it to me

Can not wait to see his face when the banner is raised on opening night the crowd goes wild and boys get a good old fashion Jersey beat down

Do not think for a minute that the Giants are not looking to open the season 1-0 in the division

They know they got hot late last year they need to get hot early and win all year so that they can go to NO and win the Championship again

  45. jcg23 says: Jul 31, 2012 6:34 PM

So like, apparently if you own a sports team, or are affiliated with it in any way shape or form, including playing for it.

You are supposed to not ever do anything or try to pump up a crowd of fans.

Romo can’t play golf, even though every freaking QB plays golf as well. Can’t take a vaca either.

Jerry isn’t allowed to like his own team.

    I can’t go on, it’s just retarded.

  46. davidcl77 says: Aug 1, 2012 1:36 PM

Jerry is a loud mouth blowhard who should have deferred personnel decisions to people who know what they’re doing.
He has hired sorry coaches he knew wouldn’t try to keep him at bay, and would allow him to do and say whatever he wants. Jimmy Johnson got tired of that crap, and all know what happened there.
Parcels was the one exception to the aforementioned.
That being said, he has every right to run that trap all he wants. He’s the owner of the team. If he wants to miss the playoffs or lose the first playoff game and wait til each next year, that’s up to him.
I do think they will be better this year. Ryan has a full training camp to instill his defense, and hopefully Romo has matured since getting married and having a child.
In the past, Romo was spotted on the sidelines numerous times screwing around laughing when his team was being kicked in their asses. He should have had his kicked. Literally.
Only time will tell for the ‘Boys.
