APKevin Kolb is being held out of practice for the Cardinals on Tuesday, but he’s going to be starting for them on Sunday.
Darren Urban of the team’s website brings word that coach Ken Whisenhunt announced that Kolb will get the start in the Hall of Fame Game against the Saints. Kolb left practice early on Monday with a thigh contusion, but he’s expected back on Wednesday and Whisenhunt’s announcement shows that no one in the organization is overly concerned.
This doesn’t end the quarterback battle in Arizona by any means. This game isn’t going to be very telling about where Kolb and John Skelton are in terms of their ability to lead the team in the regular season and there’s a pretty good chance Skelton will start the second preseason game.
Having said that, it never hurts to be the guy on the top of the depth chart the first time they put together a depth chart. The Cardinals have insisted that the price paid to bring Kolb to the desert doesn’t give him a leg up on Skelton, although you have to believe that plenty of people inside the organization would like to see a more robust return on that trade.

Kevin got himself a miniature Brett Favre Tractor.
Kolb starting any game is just the contract talking IMO. Skelton’s not great, but at least he’ll hang in there and deliver the ball under duress…
Kevin Kolb will start the end of his career on Sunday. He looked terrible last year. Cashed the check and folded it up. Even Larry thinks his QB’s aren’t top tier or even close to it.
I’m just glad there’s football “On Sunday”
Kevin corn on the Kolb needs to tighten up.
I’m a Cardinals fan for life and this isn’t even newsworthy to me. Glad that 2nd round pick is over with (that hurt) and I miss DRC but we need tackling corners in Horton’s defensive scheme so I can live with that. This year we can find out just how bad Philly ripped us off and how awful Kolb really is and finally cut him and move on. We’re a QB away from a playoff caliber team. Way to work hard and want it Kolb….I haven’t heard one story about Kolb being the first one there and last to leave or working after practice. I have heard that about Ryan Williams. That kid wants it and he’ll have a great year.
The only thing of note in this article – I didn’t realize the preseason games are so close. Probably negligent on my part, but very encouraging that we are getting closer to football season.
Kolb getting the start for a pre season game in which he might…MIGHT…be out there for 1-3 series means nothing
Start what on Sunday? Playing well?
Kolb really ruined it for Matt Flynn. He was the next man up on the “promising backup to new team as a successful starter” model that worked for Schaub and the Texans. Flynn would have made more money if Kolb was better out of the gate.
Cards would be better off cutting him and paying Kurt Warner $20M for one season.
What bad luck the Cardinals have had with QB’s since Warner. Kolb is not the answer, never was. As a matter of fact, Philly has one smart front office, this isn’t the first time they have pulled the wool over another teams eyes. Philly got rid of a Quarterback controversy while adding to the draft. I believe behind closed doors Philly’s brass knew what it had in Kolb, or knew what it didn’t have in this case.
I do think the Cards are a starting CB and QB away from a championship team. Maybe Skelton is the answer, maybe he needs a little more time behind the wheel. He definitely has the drive to play and the guts to hold on to the ball for just one more second, he is not afraid to take the big hit. He could be what they need, he just needs a fair shot to do so.
Is that good or bad news?
even tho both teams sunday arent my teams, i will still watch the game cause its football!!! yeaah!! feel like a kid the night before christmas or something, nfl off season is too long!!!!
Kolb should be marked as FRAGILE.
10 plus picks next yr – Eagles secondary
Wow, Kolb’s ego is so big his tires are inflated. Maybe he should stop trying to look cool, but prove his worth on the field. He must think he is above the fans. Hey get off and come back to earth. Time to humble up Kolb.
Then John Skelton next week, Kolb’s next after that, then back to Skelton, over again to Kolb then to……
Cards fans should be mad at front office for signing this guy to a big contract based the results of three games this guy played in.
Theres a Skelton in the closet.
