i think it was simply a case of alex smith throwing the ball to him that led him to look like garbage

Yeah, I’m thinkin’ both Edwards and Bryant get cut, but wind up back on the roster later in the year, when injuries start to mount.

Also I forgot to reply to the “all of our WRs are better than Moss and Crabtree combined.”. Funny you say that because the only way Rice and Baldwin have higher receiving yards than Crabtree is by combining their stats.

Uh oh Seattle, better watch out, He’s probably still packing that New York Essence that is so much a part of him. It’s such a strong force he could no longer concentrate on catching footballs in Cleveland. Another body for training camp. If he can put together a good effort, he may bump Butler or Obomanu.

I don’t see it happening, though. Rice is the clear #1, Tate has the inside track to #2, Baldwin is going to be the slot guy, Lockette is the deep threat, Durham will be possession and depth. That’s five roster spots, with Deon Butler, Obomanu, Edwards, and Bryant competing for one spot.

Of course, with Rice’s injury history, the ‘Hawks are probably looking for an insurance policy. If either Edwards or Bryant is unable to find employment before the season, they’ll be sitting at home, available to add to the roster in the event of an injury to someone else.

Niners sure could have used a veteran to add to the roster late last season….one catch for three yards from the entire WR corps in the NFC Championship Game….is there any word to describe that other than “pathetic”?

Braylon Edwards may get in trouble a lot, but he’s actually a good dude/player. Maybe Pete Carroll’s style of coaching will get him motivated to the point he think he’s at Michigan again.

Getting signed to the 90-man roster is a long way from getting signed to the 53-man.

PC preaches competition at every position. Same way as last year. Maybe Edwards shows he’s found his catching hands again, maybe not. If not, he was camp fodder. Same as the Bryant signing.

No sure thing that either Edwards or Bryant make the roster. Baldwin, Lockette, and Tate are all having good training camps so far.

Why does it look bad? We’re at the start of training camp, and teams use this time of the offseason to kick the tires on players all the time.

Durham looks like a miss by the FO, but Lockette wasn’t a draft pick at all. Seattle grabbed him from the UDFA pile, and he’s looked good in camp so far (you’re a Seahawk fan, so you should already know that).

Finally, what does giving a WR a one-year deal have to do with the QB competition? Are you suggesting that adding to the pile at WR (where we do have questions) will somehow prevent the QB competition from moving forward?

I remember Edwards in college was a beast. Mario Manningham has proved his worth in the NFL. Even Steve Breaston is a solid WR. But, who would have thought out of these three that played together at Michigan, Edwards would be the one struggling to find a team. Edwards was let go in the bay, and guess who they pick up, Manningham.

Funny how all he has to do is eat a snickers and he might be back to form, catching spectacular passes. But until then, he will be known as butterfingers. haha

No, his primary competion is going to be from Obomanu and Chris Durham. Lockette and Tate will be in front of him, and Lockette will have more 20 plus yard catches and TD’s this year than Randy Moss, BTW.

As to you 49′ers, at least we didn’t spend big money and plan on him to be a starter. We signed him as our 90th guy and he’s fighting for a 5th or 6th receiver spot. Rice, Lockette, Tate and Baldwin have the 1st 4 slots locked down. And they all have one thing in common; they’re all better than Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss — combined.

Another great Pete Carroll decision. Let’s sign a WR to a huge contract who can’t stay on the field (Rice), and then sign a WR who can’t catch a cold (Edwards). Make sure you spend money on QB’s that aren’t NFL starter material, too.

Seahawks WR’s – Rice, Tate, Baldwin, Butler, Durham, Obamanu, Lockette. Although none of these guys, other than a healthy Sidney Rice (oxymoron?) are elite, it don’t think Antonio Bryant or Edwards have a great shot at making the team. Hawks won’t carry more than 6.
