Eagles have another injury on defensive line

Cullen Jenkins, Julian Vanderveld, Dallas Reynolds AP

Already dealing with injuries to defensive end Jason Babin (calf) and defensive end Trent Cole (shoulder), the Eagles have suffered another injury to a key defensive lineman.

Tackle Cullen Jenkins took a cart ride Wednesday with a hamstring injury.  He was scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday night.

Other injured defensive linemen include rookie end Vinny Curry (ankle) and defensive tackle Mike Patterson, who has yet to be cleared after brain surgery.

Injuries are a fact of life in the NFL.  Every team has to deal with the issue, though some don’t get it as bad as others.  Having injuries early gives other players an opportunity to get reps with the first team and, in turn, improve.

Though the Eagles enjoy depth on the defensive line, they need guys like Babin, Cole, Jenkins, Curry, and Patterson to be ready to go, if the Eagles are going to take the next step in 2012.

They also need to rash of injuries to their defensive linemen to stop.

The only reason the Packers didn’t resign him.

i hope cox pans out better than most eagles d line picks. sounds like we need it

This isnt good. Hopefully Cole and Jenkins are back in a few days. Reid, take it easy on the practices now or we won’t have a D-Line

There entire starting defensive line of last season is now injured. Not as big of a deal as people might think though. It’s giving the Rookies reps and they are making the most of it. Cole, Babin, and Cullen should be back for week 1. Can’t see Patterson being back.

With all due regards to Mike Patterson….

But how in the hell does a human being have brain surgery and then try to make the roster on an NFL team a few months later?

My money says he files a lawsuit in a few years…

your need to change the way you do camp because u keep losing guy important guy i might add

Somebody get this team a better conditioning coach.

Nothing that goes into week 1 of the season so everything is cool in Eagles land…

every team has to deal with injuries, yes, but when you lose your top 4 defensive linemen it’s very hard to overcome. hopefully they can get back on the field soon.

With the exception of Patterson, Washburn is making his Vet d-lineman sit out with “injuries”. I went to camp last weekend and Washburn barely let Cole practice. What does a guy like Cole have to prove in camp?

  11. maddenisfordorks says: Aug 2, 2012 2:26 AM

Where are the stories about Eagles camp “getting off to a rough start” and how Philly is “reeling”?

Or is that just for the fans in Duval??

  12. andyb02 says: Aug 2, 2012 2:47 AM

This is not the end of the world for the Eagles. Every guy except for Curry is a veteran so missing a few weeks of meaningless reps will not hurt their game. Besides Patterson, everyone will probably be back in the next couple of weeks.

Like I said before, they deserve it after that Okung incident. Oh and that whole signing Mike Vick thing. It’s called karma.

Damn it. Hope it’s nothing serious.

They also had a DT get a concussion yesterday . The Eagles will be fine though , no injured player will be out long & guy’s like Babin , Jenkins & Cole are established vets . Besides , This is a great chance for players like Phillip Hunt , Fletcher Cox & Brandon Graham to run with the ones .

Well I guess if there was 1 position for the Eagles to have injuries it would be to there most ‘stacked’ position

  18. janvanflac says: Aug 2, 2012 7:28 AM

None of them are serious. In the regular season all of them would play, except maybe Babin and he won’t be out long.

  19. hope4superbowl says: Aug 2, 2012 7:42 AM

It’s nothing to be worried about. Trent Cole is being held out mostly as a precautionary measure, Babin’s calf strain is no more than a 2 week injury, and Vinny Curry is practicing on his ankle. Patterson is the guy who could miss regular season time, and nobody knows the extent of Jenkins’ injury yet. I would rather have the young guys get some reps with the first team and let Cole and Babin rest up some, anyways. Brandon Graham has looked great as the starting left end so far, btw.

Don’t worry Eagles fans, the Colts will happily trade Dwight Freeney to you for a 2nd rounder.

  21. eaglesw00t says: Aug 2, 2012 8:16 AM

first week of camp and the entire starting DL is injured.

Good to get backups snaps? or terribad that the starters might not be completely in shape by the end of camp?

Ahhh the trials that a dynasty must endure…………………..

  23. seatownballers says: Aug 2, 2012 8:20 AM

They are falling over like bowling pins! All across the nfl.

  24. tsizzlehotpiss says: Aug 2, 2012 8:49 AM

Wow. I was kind of excited to see the Eagles’ new revamped front seven, but it looks like they may have just as manyproblems as last year, despite adding Demeco Ryans and Fletcher Cox. Cox better be ready to step right in.

  25. blockedshotnyr says: Aug 2, 2012 9:54 AM

None of these injuries are even serious – Babin’s is the most serious at this point and it’s week-to-week (2-3 being max) – nothing to see here (granted no word yet on Jenkins, but even if it’s a hammy 2-4 most likely, unless it’s a complete tear, which judging from the reports – it’s not).

Like someone said above – good for the depth because guys like Graham, Cox, Hunt and Thornton get extra reps.

  26. phenixfly says: Aug 2, 2012 10:44 AM

Every team goes through injuries, I’ll rather have injuries now where they can come back than midway through the season.

  27. meytonpanning says: Aug 2, 2012 11:17 AM

Lol well enjoy your season. Eagles will go 7 wins at most. Not because of talent but because of injuries and no depth.

  28. eaglebranded says: Aug 2, 2012 12:01 PM

First off none of the injuries are serious except for mike Patterson. Curry has been practicing on the ankle. Also philly defensive line consist of an eight man rotation. With about 12 guys that can start on most teams getting reps to prove themselves . We will be good when philly do cut the defensive line down watch how many guys go to other teams and dominate their position.

  29. eaglebranded says: Aug 2, 2012 12:07 PM

To say philly has no depth is retarded meytonpanning u must not know football. Depth was philly is one of the deepest teams in the league if not the deepest.
