Report: Browns fear Gocong has torn Achilles, out for season

The Browns could be without both starting outside linebackers to begin the season, as team officials fear Chris Gocong has torn his Achilles tendon.

Sources told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer they feared the worst with the injury, which happened without contact Saturday morning.

“It would be a huge hit,”linebacker D’Qwell Jackson said. “Chris is a great player.”

The Browns’ weakside linebacker was defending on a pass play when he reached down and grabbed his lower right leg, and was later helped to a cart by trainers without putting any weight on his right leg.

The Browns will also miss starting strongside linebacker Scott Fujita for the first three games because of his bounty suspension, leaving them extremely thin at the position if Gocong’s injury is as feared.

I feel bad for Gocong. He never really was exceptional in Philadelphia but I’ll always remember him as a beast here at Cal Poly SLO. Hopefully he recovers.

    Hope Haslem kept the receipt.

Well the good news is, he is replaceable. He is serviceable at best. I always felt the linebackers were a bit of a weakness for the Browns. I will be curious to see how their back ups fare this preseason. I hope they play them through at least the first quarter next week.

Look for Sam Acho to lock up the WOLB spot. James Michael-Johnson will be in the mix when Scott Fujita returns.

Will the Browns ever have any good luck? I don’t think so because it’s Cleveland!!

Gocong was never great in Philly so he must have been better in Cleveland. Poor Browns, best fans, worst team.

They fear it’s a torn achilles but it won’t be official until the staph infection.
