Bengals lose rookie corner for the season

Shaun Prater AP

The ultimate game of attrition can claims its victims at any time.  For the Bengals, a newcomer to the defensive backfield finds himself already out for the year.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Bengals cornerback Shaun Prater, a fifth-round pick in 2012, has been lost for the season with a knee injury.  Prater, who played college football at Iowa, will be placed on injured reserve.

First-round corner Dre Kirkpatrick already is missing time with a knee/leg injury.

To make matters worse, third-year corner Brandon Ghee has a broken wrist that will cause him to miss the preseason, per Rapoport.

Coach Marvin Lewis has said that Kirkpatrick is expected to be ready for the regular-season opener.

They keep having bad luck with these rookies. They still have depth though. Not sure why teams are going so hard in practice that they are causing guys to miss time before the ball is even snapped. Good luck though!

Throwing a rookie out there week one without a snap in camp or a single preseason game would not be an intelligent move.

Perhaps I’m just paying closer attention, but it seems like there has been more camp injuries this year.

I just keep knocking on wood that my team and “lose ___ for the season” don’t appear in the same link…

Bengals fans are used to our draft picks getting injured! I don’t think it is working too hard in practice as much as too much time off for players to get out of shape. The CBA practice rules are extremely lenient so players need to remember train themselves. That is what they are paid for!

It doesn’t matter, they weren’t going to do anything this year anyway.

@vincentbojackson……Coach Lewis never mentioned anything about Dre playing on game 1. He’s just giving a timeline of the injury..lol..oh gosh…….

Every year with this.. when do we play Detroit? We always play Detroit in the preseason and lose someone up there too.

Well it may actually be GOOD news for the Bengals. I don’t see how they could have had room for him on the roster anyway. They are neck deep in good CBs. This way they can salt him away for a year and coach him through a Spring before next training camp.
One of the older guys (Newman or Clements) may be ready to hang it up after this year plus a few are on 1 year deals anyway.

It’s really par for the course. Read around…lots of other teams have incoming draftees injured. And all teams have injury in camp, even though they are doing very little hitting right now. My overall view of the Bengals injury situation so far in this camp, is light to moderate injury problems. Compared to what an average team will experience in camp. At this point we probably have less overall injuries than the average. And they are minor in severity for the most part. It’s just that they are all lumped in a a few spots. You have 6 CBs out, knicked up, or just off surgery and not quite 100%. Then we have 2 Dlineman & 2 HBs out. What is odd, is these are all positions groups where we were considered very deep, and maybe having to cut somebody we would rather keep if we could. My guess is in the end this will solve this problem(s)..sending CBs Ghee & Prater to season ending injury reserve, sending HB Herron to the practice squad for sure now & and probably cutting DT Sims. But still 10 injuries at this point with only 2 expected to miss regular season time isn’t too bad. I should probably knock on wood or something…done! No really, my point is we should expect more of it…and if not then we are lucky.
