One throw, one pick for Kevin Kolb

Kevin Kolb AP

Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb, who’s battling with John Skelton for the starting job in Arizona, had the first chance to make a first impression.

And Kolb failed.

On his first throw of the preseason, a pass by Kolb intended for receiver Andre Roberts easily was intercepted by Malcolm Jenkins.  Though Jenkins lined up close to the offensive tackle and floated out into coverage, Kolb arguably could have — and should have — seen Jenkins before pulling the trigger on his first read.

Part of the problem is that the ball thrown by Kolb lacked zip, making it easy for Jenkins to jump the out route.

The Cardinals held the Saints and backup quarterback Chase Daniel to a punt, which means that Kolb will get another chance to not throw an interception.

They have to be regretting that trade and the contract they gave Kolb.

With the first pick of the 2013 NFL Draft the Arizona Cardinals select QB Matt Barkley University Southern California. Lol

Baffles me how people pick the Rams to be last in the NFC West when there’s teams without QB’s in the division (Seattle too).

Kolb is terrible , put skelton in

This guy is a QB lol. As a Niner fan, I find this hilarious.

Not to say hes faking injuries but, he would have been cut if they had enough film to see he’s a bust…but they don’t because he’s always on the sideline.

It’s raining where I live so I can’t get the signal on directv. ughhh

So the Cardinals traded for Kolb, but the bigger mistake was signing him to a long term deal before playing a single game in an Arizona uniform.

I said Kolb was garbage but who listened? Apparently not Arizona. Just put Skelton in and give Kolb the clipboard, thank me later

I wonder if Carroll will blow the season to get his guy from USC?

I respectfully disagree with the statement that Kolb failed to make a first impression. In fact, he made a very strong first impression. It was simply a horrible one.

They just said Kolb is out for the rest of the game because of busted Ribs.

  13. geniusfan says: Aug 5, 2012 8:52 PM

The Eagles fleeced the Cardinals terribly on the Kolb deal.

When you have two qb’s u have none.

Yeah im sooo predicting they get a top 5 draft pick and draft Matt Barkley. Not saying that because of one int but judging by both QBs performances last year and I just dont think there’s going to be a difference this year, plus there division just got tougher….

Andre Ware and David Klingler are so proud of Kolb continuing the hor-awful legacy of UH quarterbacks.

To those who think Arizona will wind up with the number 1 pick and Barkley, I encourage you to remember that Jacksonville still has an NFL team.

It’ll be a good race for Barkley, and unlike last year where the “loser” gets RG3, I don’t see a very good consolation prize next year.

But yes, Kolb is terrible, but it’s the chance you take when you give good money to an unproven player like that. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the whole Matt Flynn situation up in Seattle.

Kolb is the NFL’s version of JON KONCAK. Making tons of money and no one understands why or how.

Shouldn’t baffle, the Rams are bereft of talent, and your QB stays hurt all the time, so you don’t have one either.

Skelton is so good that NFL network showed a key stat (completion %) and he was only better than Gabbert. Not a good sign!

Actually, Bradford is the only QB in the NFC west that gets the term “franchise QB.”

Not worried about keeping him upright – We got rid of Loney, hired a competent and proven o-line coach, and got a new offense similar to what we ran in 2010.

Rams will finish ahead of the Seahawks and Cardinals, bet on it.

It’s sickening to know he’s gotten $27 million in bonuses over the past three years.

Cards were sold a bill of goods with Kolb. Or more accurately a bill of bads.

Hurt all the time? He played EVERY snap on offense his rookie year and half his 2nd. That hardly qualifies as “all the time”

Until the Cardinals solidify their offensive line, it won’t matter who plays quarterback. Those guys should be a little embarrassed to pick up their paychecks.

That being said, under current playing conditions Skelton has (so far) provided more stability while Kolb has shown an inability to stay healthy. Potential doesn’t mean a thing if you can’t stay on the field.

  26. yojoemama says: Aug 5, 2012 11:46 PM

I could never understand why in the world a team could desire Kolb, let alone give him a huge contract. This mediocre QB didn’t do anything in Philly so why would any team pay him??? Perhaps there’s a disease in Arizona. They paid Matt Leinert, the #11 pick, franchise money that was equivalent to a top 5 pick. Go figure lol.

Never ever trade for a philly back up QB.
