That sound you hear coming from the NFC North could be Bears fans groaning. Or Vikings defensive end Jared Allen cackling. Or perhaps both.

Per Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com, J’Marcus Webb appears to have the edge at left tackle for the Bears.

A pair of first-rounders currently are jockeying for position at right tackle, with Gabe Carimi the starter and Chris Williams the understudy.

Webb, a seventh-round pick in 2010, started 16 games in 2011 and 12 as a rookie. In his most recent start, Webb gave up 3.5 sacks to Allen.

Maybe the plan for minimizing Allen’s sacks in 2012 will be for Webb to just tackle quarterback Jay Cutler before Allen can get to him.
